Page 24 Choices and Emotions
Each morning when we open our eyes we start making choices....our immediate thoughts can determine if we are going to have a ‘good day or a bad day’.
If the alarm going off has irritated you and all you want to do is roll over and go back to sleep annoyed by the world, then the likelihood is that you have chosen to have a bad day at that
moment...chances are you may get a stubbed toe on the way to the bathroom, and a few hiccups follow you throughout the day making you more annoyed with the day as you go through
it...all this negativity! On the other hand you may wake up, have a good stretch, look out the window and see life beckoning you (grey or blue skies!) and feel anticipation for the day ahead bringing on the thoughts of “it’s going to be a great day”! Your positive thoughts will continue to bring you good things throughout the day; maybe a smile from a stranger, finding yourself first in a queue etc. After all we attract like-for-like as is written in so many books these days. I read a book by Dale Carnegie over 30 years ago called ‘How to stop worrying and start living’. I can’t remember too much about the book but I do remember one line... one gold
nugget...it all made such sense to me...8 words that can change your life!
“Your life is what your thoughts make it.”
So how do you think about yourself, the world and other people? Because each thought or emotional feeling controls our behaviour and our actions.
Do we need to bother about our feelings and emotions?
Well, ignored emotions or repressed feelings can set you up for mental or physical illness. They lie buried within you and can manifest into disease later on in life. Negative emotions can be jealousy, fear, anxiety or depression which can cause chemical reactions in your body that are the opposite of other chemicals released when you are feeling positive such as content, happy, compassionate, loved and appreciated. So do you come from Love or Fear?
Some people struggle with helping themselves in this area and may want to seek a gentle pathway such as counselling which can lead you to a deeper understanding of yourself. It helps get you in touch with your real feelings, helps to banish your fears and find a positive new you, and in turn this can lead to an improvement in your physical health also. The only one person who can change how you feel is YOU.
