ASV Funeral Services, at that difficult time… Frequently asked questions about funeral services for foreign expats.

Antonio López, Director of the Vega Baja area of Grupo ASV Servicios Funerarios, answers questions about how to proceed in case of death in Spain, and the funeral services available in this country.

How long does a funeral service generally last in Spain? The duration of a funeral service in Spain is flexible, and takes into account the customs and special wishes of the relatives of the deceased. If the family needs time to organise themselves, and prepare for the ceremony, ASV Funeral Services will hold the deceased for the time necessary.

What types of services can be arranged? ASV Funeral Services will organise a personalised funeral in accordance with the family’s wishes, and can arrange for a speaker to conduct a touching farewell service. In the case of a religious service, we are in regular contact with representatives of the different faiths, and they will carry out a funeral service in accordance with the family’s beliefs.

How do I obtain the paperwork necessary? There’s no need to worry. ASV Funeral Services is responsible for handling all the certificates and documents that the family is required to present by law, including the International Death Certificate.

What are these documents required for? These papers will enable the family to start the inheritance process and corresponding pensions.

How long does it take for the death certificate to come through? The time it takes to issue the death certificate varies depending on the area where the death occurred.

Who pays for the service? If the deceased had a Funeral Plan or Insurance coverage, Grupo ASV Servicios Funerarios will get in touch with the pertinent company and resolve all matters relating to this. When this is not the case, the family of the deceased will take care of payment for the funeral service.

Is it possible to repatriate the deceased? Yes, once a family decides to have the funeral service in the deceased’s native country, ASV Funeral Services will make all the arrangements to repatriate the body to the destination requested.

A last recommendation? We strongly recommend anyone facing a difficult situation like this, to get in contact immediately with a quality Funeral company in Spain; they will advise and help you through all the steps involved, in a discreet and professional manner.
