A visit to Brownsea Island begins with an exciting boat trip across Poole Harbour from either; Poole Quay, Sandbanks, Bournemouth or Swanage. Here are a few ideas to enjoy your visit to this jewel on the south coast, the Pier to Pier walk is a scenic stroll along the promenade and treat yourself to coffee and cake at one of the many cafes, restaurants or hotels at either end. Hire a beach hut or a surf reef beach pod at Boscombe Beach, Europe’s first artificial surf reef is here and surfers from around the globe come to try it out.

Mudeford has an intriguing history of smuggling over the centuries and the picturesque quay is still the focal point of the local fishing industry. Its spectacular location with Christchurch Harbour on one side and the open sea on the other makes it a very popular destination for sailing and windsurfing. This is home to the Mudford Ferry which serves the entire area.
At nearby Highcliffe, or Highcliffe on Sea to give it its full name, there are award winning beaches, superb views from Highcliffe Castle and just about the best climate in the UK. Walk in nature reserves where wildlife abounds, or along the cliffs.
The area is quaint and when the surf is up the surf spot known to the locals as the ‘Crow’s Nest’ can be a great place to catch a wave. This part of Dorset has a beautiful coastline that runs from Highcliffe to Bournemouth, which acts as a playground for all water sport aficionados who frequent the area.
