Sandbanks, Poole
Just under two miles from the ferry terminal at Studland is the Rempstone Ride cycle route across heath and forest to the Norden Park and Ride, with a free bus trip, and then a ride on the Swanage Railway steam train to Swanage.
The Sandbanks Ferry is the easiest way to access Poole and Bournemouth from Studland, travelling across Swanage Bay permitting a closer look at Old Harry Rocks as well as Peveril Point, Durlston Head and Dancing Rocks. The rock face is alive with birds and spectacular with broken chunks lying about like a giant’s rotten molars. Birds to be seen include Shag, Shelduck, Cormorants and Fulmar drying their wings on Old Harry’s distinguished head. You can sometimes see Peregrine Falcons and Puffins.
Upton is the second largest town in Purbeck, and home to Upton House with its ancient manicured lawns 45 feet above the sea looking out over Poole Harbour. At Upton Country Park there is a wooded shoreline, gardens, and an open park space that together provides many miles of wonderful natural space. You can take walks, find a place to sit and watch the birds, jog, or take the family on a picnic or visit the Peacock Art Gallery after you have a spot of tea at the Peacock Tearooms.
Poole is a town rich in history. The beautiful Old Town is part of the original mediaeval settlement and some buildings still survive. In the harbour there is the interesting & popular National Trust Brownsea Island.
The sheltered harbour is one of the largest centres for sailing & other water-sports in the UK with several yacht clubs open to non members, and sailing & surfing schools offering tuition to visitors. There are seven fine golden sand beaches all offering the usual beach facilities, with the larger having Lifeguard cover during the season.
Sandbanks Beach is undoubtedly the best beach on the south coast of England. One of the most famous and unique attractions of Sandbanks is the Sandbanks Chain Ferry, which shuttles between Sandbanks and Studland crossing at the mouth of Poole harbour. For the naturalist there is a dedicated beach at Studland.
Summer events in the town include Coles Miller Dream Machines and Summer Breeze. Other attractions include: Tower Park on the outskirts of the town, Adastral Leisure Centre, Gus Gorilla’s Jungle Playground & Ice Skating rink, Poole Pottery and Poole Museum. Plus summer beach parties with fireworks and a programme of free events throughout the summer, world famous gardens, motorbike evenings, and cycle speedway.
At TOWER PARK a galaxy of entertainment unfolds. With the Splashdown water - park and swimming pool, Empire Cinema, Bowlplex tenpin bowling, kid’s soft play, bingo and a range of restaurants, there’s enough to keep you busy whatever the weather.
