Calstock on the Devon banks of the River Tamar is a small pretty village dominated by the viaduct that carries the picturesque Tamar Valley Railway running from Plymouth to Gunnislake. In the surrounding countryside the remains of the mining industry can still be seen. Just southwest of the village is Cotehele House, one of the best preserved medieval estates in the country having changed little since the reign of Henry VIII.

There are Fallow Deer in a woodland enclosure and you will see Wallabies and Muntjac Deer roaming around the 21 acre grounds. We have several Owl species and other birds of prey. Enter the wildwood and you will come across Deer, Birds of Prey, Meerkats, Wallabies and Scottish Wildcats and eventually you will come across the tranquil quarry pool. When you have seen everything there is a tea room serving Devon delicacies.
Callington is a small ancient market town lying six miles from the River Tamar with Launceston a short distance to the north, Liskeard is to the west and Tavistock to the east making this town an ideal base for exploring both Cornwall & Devon. The industrial heritage from the mining era still remains as part of the landscape. Just outside of the town at Kitt Hill is the highest lake in England.
Gunnislake often referred to as the first village in Cornwall with its ancient bridge being one of the major routes into the county. The village is also well known for salmon fishing.

Saltash is a flourishing modern town and almost a suburb of Plymouth, yet it has retained much of its Cornish charm signified by a large Celtic Cross that is visible from the Tamar Bridge and for miles around. Situated on the west bank of the beautiful river Tamar, the town acts as a gateway for holiday makers between Cornwall and Devon. As well as the attractive setting Saltash also has a wide range of excellent facilities, shops, places to eat, and many river orientated events. A few miles outside of the town going into Cornwall at Carkeal there is a supermarket, garden centre, several restaurants, a Tourist Information Centre, and filling station garage.
Torpoint is the gateway to east Cornwall with a chain road ferry connecting Devon with Cornwall. To the north of the town, overlooking the River Lynher as it meets the Tamar is the National Trust Antony House, a superb 18th century building, around the house are some wonderful grounds and gardens. The Kernow Mill shopping experience is a few miles into Cornwall at the Trerulefoot roundabout.
