ristol is the second largest city in the south of England and has gained the envious reputation of being the gastronomic centre of the South West with its award-winning restaurants which, includes Carluccio’s and a Raymond Blanc brassiere. Bristol has some excellent museums & galleries, great shopping and an exciting nightlife. But what’s more surprising about Bristol is how green and open it is, with its many parks and gardens, food markets and easy access to the countryside.


Explore the historic harbourside, packed with fabulous cafes & bars at venues such as Bordeaux Quay, Riverstation and Severnshed. Enjoy a dockside walk or river ferry trip to discover great attractions including the ss Great Britain, At-Bristol a science centre and planetarium, the Blue Reef Aquarium or contemporary art at leading edge galleries.


Wander along cobbled streets of the Old City and visit Bristol’s many important churches providing reminders of Bristol’s rich medieval past as well as its fine Cathedral, spectacular St Mary Redcliffe parish church and Wesley’s New Room, the birthplace of Methodism. Browse the regular fresh and organic food stalls and bric-a-brac of St Nicholas Markets.


Visit leafy Clifton village full of sweeping Georgian crescents, designer shops and elegant cafes. Don’t miss the stunning views of the Avon Gorge as you explore the truly iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge, Brunel’s masterpiece of Victorian engineering. Also close by is Hotwells, the vast greenery of the Downs, Bristol Zoo Gardens and the exciting nightlife of the ‘strip’ along Whiteladies Road and on to Park Street, site of one of Banksy’s most famous pieces of street graffiti.


To the south of the City, you’ll find Bedminster, Totterdown (home to Arnos Vale Cemetery) and Southville’s trendy North Street, home of the Tobacco Factory theatre and many popular cafes and bars. To the east are the diverse and dynamic communities of St. Paul’s. Montpelier, St Werburgh’s and Easton. Just to the north of the city is The Mall at Cribbs Causeway, offering a huge selection of great shops and ample free parking.


You may feel that visiting a cemetery is the last thing you would want to do for a Day Out, but the ARNOS VALE CEMETERY in Bath Road is a place of heritage containing many listed buildings and monuments of regional, national and international importance. With a fascinating variety of fauna and flora, plus a programme of events this is a place to put into an itinerary.
