Ruan Minor and Cadgwith are authentic working fishing villages with cottages on the steep hillside to the cove. The south beach, also known as the Little Cove, is the swimmers beach with the east beach being a working beach full of fishing boats and other small craft. Both beaches are quite rocky but are sheltered and safe for families. Dogs are permitted on the east beach only.
Visit the Cove pub for folk singing on Tuesdays, the Cellars Restaurant for great food, the Crow’s Nest Gallery for an eclectic selection of local crafts, and Sarah’s for dressed crab.
Boat trips can be arranged to the caves and Devils frying pan. In the summer months there are fishing competitions, gig racing, barbeques and a regatta. Ruan Minor has an interesting church, grocery shop /craft shop. Caravan & camping parks are available throughout west Cornwall and from those on the Lizard Peninsula you may wish to choose.
SILVER SANDS HOLIDAY PARK offers static caravans, touring and camping pitches in a mature parkland setting. This park is ideal for relaxation or to go sightseeing and touring. From the park it is just a short 1km woodland walk through the Lizard Nature Reserve to clean sandy beaches of Kennack Sands and Kynance Cove. Liard Point and Helford are within easy reach. Customer comments include: ‘the cleanest we have ever stayed in’ – ‘the owners of the site were nicest and friendliest we have ever met’ – ‘the quietest and best organised we have ever stayed in’.
Lizard Village is the most southerly village on the British mainland. This is a good base to explore the tip of the Lizard; there is a small pub with rooms plus a number of shops. Situated just off the green there is a Cornish pasty shop renowned for quality and authenticity. To walk to the sea it is best to park in the village as the roads get narrow toward Lizard Point, though it is possible to drive to the Lighthouse where there is limited parking. Just east of the Lizard Station a short detour from the path takes you to a collapsed sea- cave, The Lion’s Den, but be very careful as it is unfenced.
Going up the coast toward Helston; Kynance Cove to Lizard Point to Housel Bay and Church Cove offer spectacular views. Less than two miles from Lizard Point there are serpentine rock formations with a distinctive pinnacle to the north of the beach. Kynance, owned by the National Trust, is one of the prettiest coves in Cornwall and one of the most painted.
Pentreath beach is a narrow strip of sand, pebbles and rocks due west of Lizard Village. Caerthillian Cove a short distance away is quite pretty and popular for coastal path walkers, there are no facilities here.
Mullion is the largest village on the Lizard and has shops, inns, cafes, restaurants, and art galleries. There is a golf course nearby and if you are interested in a fishing excursion there are boats for
