Puerto Rico, a beautiful place with narrow cobble streets, wide open highways and sensational scenery. While I was leaning into the
mountain curves as we descended, my bike suddenly seemed to be caught in road groove and the rear was sliding a bit. I could only feel it on the curves. A few miles further, the group stopped at a beach refreshment area. I checked the rear tire. It was flat with 0 psi. I congratulated myself that it was a good bike or I was a good operator to handle the roads on a flat. The chase vehicle had an air
compressor, but the rest of my ride was nerve-wracking. I couldn’t figure out why a good tire suddenly went flat.
When we arrived at the port city it
was time for a cold beer. The women went to the ship and freshened up while we waited in the shopping village at an outdoor pub. We looked for damage on the rear
tire. It turned out I had picked up some debris. A large nail had gone through the tire and bent over. Later, on the ship, I checked the
tire and it was flat again. John, who is a mechanic, had brought a tire plug kit. We decided to fix the tire then and there on the ship. The ship’s crew watched and were eager to help if needed. The repairs were successful. I knew I’d be able to ride the bike from the ship and for a couple of days back in Florida before it was time to load up for home. Next port was Labadee. Labadee
is sand, sun and ocean. There were no roads to ride, so we just enjoyed the
