PUBLISHER Message from the Publisher Five years and GROWING BRIAN WARREN
Hard to believe. Bounder is celebrating its
fifth year . But we have to go back many years, when I
was publishing other magazines (55 Plus, Due West, and City Woman) to find the origin of Bounder. Vince Pucci, owner of Cabotto’s Restaurant
in Stittsville, was constantly on my case about publishing a magazine that catered to the male population. Other obligations and a heavy workload kept me from creating it. That didn’t stop me from talking about it
for many years and amassing a large quantity of scribbles on cocktail napkins whenever I got together with many of my friends over beers. Ten years later, all those notes were finally
put to print. Then there was the name of the magazine.
Many ideas were thrown around before I received an email from my good friend, Paul Patterson, who was living in the Channel Islands at the time. His opening line – “Hey, Bounder!” (my
high school nickname) – struck a chord that night. I sent an email to my designer,
Patti Watters, asking her to play with a couple of logo design ideas. Bounder magazine it became. Many of my friends and associates were
keen to be part of Bounder, and today a lot of them are writing articles for it. They have many hobbies and interests and were glad to be able to write about them. Without them, Bounder wouldn’t exist and would not have such a local feel. My hat goes off to all of them for making me look good. And now for the future. I believe that
Bounder will continue to grow. The magazine industry is still healthy, and many people prefer to read a glossy magazine over reading it online. We will continue to work hard to bring you a first-class magazine that begs to be read from cover to cover. We are now into our show and festival
season and we’ll be out and about again with our Bounder/Freedom-Harley Davidson Event trailer. I hope to see you at one of our trailer events this summer. Thanks for being a reader.
