Lot 1893 Lot 1890 1890. Fragmented Anatolian tulu,

east Anatolia, 20th century, 7ft. 11in. x 4ft. 2in. 2.41m. x 1.27m. Reduced in length by horizontal cut lower end; some repairs. £150-200

1893. Good Hotamis kelim, Konya region, south central Anatolia late 18th century or earlier, 9ft.8in. x 4ft.8in. 2.98m. x 1.42m. Small holes and areas of damage overall. Woven in two equal sections joined down centre. It would appear to be the double headed ‘screw’ motifs above and below each large hexagonal medallion which give these kelims their specific Hotamis attribution. Now sewn down on to linen backing. £2,500-3,000

Lot 1891

1891. Kayseri silk saf, north central Anatolia, modern, 3ft. 6in. x 2ft. 1in. 1.07m. x 0.64m. £100-150

Lot 1889

1889. An impressive Konya ‘banded’ half kelim, central Anatolia 18th-19th century, 8ft.8in. x 2ft.4in. 2.64m. x 0.72m. Wear and small losses in places, mainly down inside long side. The abrashed light brown plain bands are worked in natural camelhair; note, however, the presence of two small mushka (good luck) symbols worked in red in the second camelhair band from the top. Another noteworthy feature of this band of elibelinde figures at both ends; whilst it is not unusual to find a version of this figure on Konya and other central Anatolian kelims, a rarer version is seen here, which might be described as the archetypal ‘neolithic Goddess’ figure graphically displayed. A similar kelim with camel bands is illustrated in Frauenknecht, Fruhe Turkische Tapisserien, pl. 9. Now sewn down on to linen backing. £1,000-1,500

1892. Karapinar tulu, central Anatolia, mid-20th century, 5ft. 11in. x 3ft. 8in. 1.80m. x 1.12m. £80-120

Lot 1894

1894. Attractive Konya kelim with all over elibelinde pattern, central Anatolia first half 19th century, 9ft.6in. x 4ft.8in. 2.90m. x 1.42m. Overall uneven wear, areas of damage and losses, main border missing one long side. This kelim represents one of the best known Anatolian kelim designs made in many different centres from west to the furthest east; the majority, however, are attributed to Konya. Now sewn down on to linen backing. £1,500-2,000
