1804. Long wool shawl, probably French, late 19th century, 136in. x 64in. 345cm. x 163cm. woven with elongated boteh and harlequin ends. Small holes throughout and thin in places. £200-300


1806. Two long wool shawls, French, late 19th century, the first in the manner of a ‘four-seasons’ shawl but with only a double two-colour centre medallion (instead of a four-colour medallion); woven with tiny flowerheads in a strap-work design; elongated boteh to each end; the border of lozenge shapes within a lattice; remains of harlequin border at one end only, 120in. x 59in.; 305cm. x 150cm. Some wear and thin in places. The second with all over elongated boteh and floral motifs; harlequin ends, 128in. x 64in. 326cm. x 163cm. White paint marks and small holes throughout; ‘bite’ to one side; crude repair to one end. (2) £150-250


1809. Norwegian child’s regional costume comprising a fine black wool sleeveless dress with a fine red wool bodice edged with silk embroidered trim and metal thread trim, the bodice lined with fine cotton and stamped: ‘Anna Jordal, Dragthendal, Odda, Hardanger’; long sleeved cotton blouse with pin tucks and broderie anglaise style stand up collar and cuffs; cotton apron with lace insert; black velvet collarless jacket, lined ivory sateen; fine red wool beaded belt with metal thread trim; matching cap with ties; matching purse with long red wool handle and a matching unmade up small bag front, the cotton backing stamped as in the dress; and a pair of small wooden heeled open toed sandals with red leather uppers. 20th century. 1805. Long fine wool shawl, probably French, late 19th century, plain red wool centre within a woven border of ‘boteh’-style ferns and floral racemes with tendrils extending into the outer edge of the plain field; remains of harlequin ends, 127in., x 62in. 323cm. x 158cm. Small holes in places; slight loss to ends.

Jacquard weave long silk(?) shawl, European, late 19th/early 20th century, narrow horizontal bands woven alternately with one band of flowerhead and lozenge design and the other band of floral rosette and cruciform motifs; these bands divided by narrow lines of miniscule flowers; plain red silk fringed ends. 131in. x 64in. 333cm. x 163cm. Surface marks in several places. £100-150


1808. Christening gown with long sleeves in fine cotton organza with robins, inserts and frill of good quality Duchesse flower lace; a satin underskirt, a fine white cotton baby gown and a Brinscombe point child’s cap.Sold as a collection with all faults not subject to return. £50-100

Collection of various garments including a mustard coloured felted wool over jacket with pale blue silk braid trim to collar, cuffs, front and edges, the stylized floral motif to the front cleverly concealing a pocket, braid ties to the back, lined biscuit coloured glazed cotton; possibly Turkish, early 20th century, Some splits and time stains; yellow brocaded silk jacket, lined with undyed coarse cotton; European, time stains; other marks; pair of gentleman’s slippers with yellow dyed leather uppers and leather lined soles; Middle Eastern black cotton tunic with shell decoration; embroidered and quilted black cotton hat lined printed cotton; and a red felted wool hat with long blue tassel . together with a little boy’s dressing up outfit, of green felted wool jacket, unlined; red cotton waistcoat and black velvet breeches, and a stiffened glazed fabric collar stamped ‘The Eton, 13’ (11) £100-150


1811. White silk brocade ribbon, woven with sprays of full blown roses, satin edging, unused and on a roll, very long length, 10½in. 27cm. wide; together with two silk remnants, one entirely worked with fine pin tucks, the other woven with variously sized ‘dots’; four pairs of long white kid evening gloves and two pairs white kid gloves, one pair stamped with a lion? motif and the number ‘8’; all unlined.
