1786. Polynesian tapa cloth, (bark cloth) Samoa, early 20th century, all over geometric design painted in dark and mid-brown with intermittent dark brown circles, 76in. x 69in. 193cm. x 175cm. Note: Hand written label attached verso reads: ‘Tappa cloth from Samoa used as loincloth and apron, sent by Mr. D. Browne’. £100-150


1788. Chinese fine silk k’ossu landscape picture, with scant metal thread highlights to the two seated figures and to the game pieces on the ground; The figures perched on a rocky outcrop apparently playing a game. 19th century, 17in. x 7in. 43cm. x 18cm. within an ivory damask border, laid down on paper. Remains of frame on which there is a label which reads: ‘Woven silk picture, Ching dynasty, 19th century.’ This also written in ink on the back of the paper. £100-150


1791. Pair of Chinese slippers, ivory silk with maroon side bands embroidered in coloured silks with flowers; the natural cotton lining with faint marks in red ink, with blue binding to top edges and toe front; leather soles, China, 19th century, the sole 8in., 20cm. long; one slipper lacking silk heel tag. Together with a Chinese or Tibetan felted wool hat, applied with silk and metal thread bands to rim and crown, with felted wool ear flaps and a small flap to the front and back, all lined with rabbit fur, early 20th century, and a Chinese black satin small rectangular panel embroidered in coloured silks with a crane and prunus blossom. 20th century. 1792. Chinese silk embroidered panel, in coloured silk and gold metal brocade on an ivory satin ground, set into a series of silk embroidered borders, late 19th-early 20th century, overall 15½in. x 12in. 39cm. x 31cm. In card passe partout, framed and glazed. £80-120


Lot 1789


1789. Chinese silk embroidered skirt in two pieces; the beige silk damask ground with two closely filled panels of silk embroidered flowers and foliage mostly in shades of blue, with polychrome butterflies; similar narrow borders and trims with black ribbon to the pleats, the embroidered panels lined with pale green silk damask; wide fine cotton waistband with loops, late 19th/early 20th century, together with a pair of ivory silk damask sleeve bands, embroidered in coloured silks with flowers, foliage and butterflies worked in Peking knot with couched metal thread outlining and details, 19th century, each 19in. x 3½in. 48cm. x 9cm. and a pair of very flat slatted wooden soled Chinese sandals, woven rush covering with ‘X’ shaped leather straps fastened at the crossover with a glass(?) stud. Sold as a collection with all faults not subject to return. (6) £100-150

1787. Chinese silk embroidered frag- mented skirt pieces, now joined together to form a rectangular panel; red silk ground embroidered in coloured floss silks with flowers, cranes, butterflies and bats above wave borders, within a metal thread brocade border, late 19th century, lined, 61in. x 15in. 155cm. x 38cm. 1790. Chinese cream silk shawl, embroidered in cream silk with a floral spray in opposing corners; 57in. x 47in. 145cm. x 119cm., short silk fringe; some time stains and surface marks. Together with a Chinese cream silk stole, embroidered in coloured silks with scrolling paeonies, 78in. x 27in. 188cm. x 69cm. Plaited silk fringe. Colour run in places. Both early-mid 20th century. Lot 1793


1793. Three Chinese embroideries, the first worked in coloured silks on satin ground with flowers and butterflies; the second worked in coloured silks and metal thread outlining depicting paeonies and butterflies; each embroidery 10¼in. x 8½in., 26cm. x 22cm., in modern mounts, framed and glazed; the third exquisitely worked in coloured silks and metal threads depicting a central paeony surrounded by butterflies, a leaping fish, conch shell; endless knot and flaming pearl motifs worked in Peking knot and couched metal threads on a pale blue silk ground within mount of dark blue embroidered silk, 13¼ in x 11½in. 34cm. x 29cm. framed and glazed. The embroideries all late 19th/early 20th century. (3) £100-150
