Note the many small tribal figures in the ivory and brick centre lozenges accompanied by a variety of small birds including peacocks. 1571. Very rare Persian ‘zodiac’ rug, probably Mashad area, north east Persia, early 20th century, 6ft. 7in. x 4ft. 4in. 2.01m. x 1.32m. Note the pale blue field with amusing depictions of signs of the zodiac and an upside down ‘half’ sun at the top of the field; white cotton highlights to small motifs in the field; the red floral main border with cartouches with inscriptions for signs of the zodiac woven in white cotton. Some wear in places; remains of glue to lower end verso. £600-800
