MOVING FLOORS

Certikin is making a grand entrance into the moving floor market as it joins forces with The Cartwright Group and offer the Chameleon Powered Floor

operating mechanisms. Under the structure between the main stainless steel beams, they install buoyancy packs; these are designed to make the whole floor float in the highest position. The floor surface finish consists of 3mm thick stainless steel plates and can be finished in a variety of ways, according to the design requirements. The complete structure is buoyant and pulled down via cables and a pulley system with water based hydraulic cylinder to the desired depth. The Hydrofloors®

system is near invisible,

flexible, rapidly adaptable, safe and complies with relevant national safety standards. The company have experienced an increased demand for their floors as clients and architects look for new ways of solving problems of space – particularly in city locations. Far from the cost of these installations being an obstacle to overcome, clients are seeing them as a way to increase the value of their property by doubling a room’s square metreage.

Alan Thorne, Manager of Hydrofloors® UK

says: “The clients who are coming to us are often in an enviable financial position but they absolutely demand value and they value quality and with a Hydrofloors®

moveable

floor they get that. They are not just looking for state of the art technology behind the facades of their listed townhouses but a swimming pool that is both economic to run and that can be safely closed when not in use and turned into a function room when needed. Hydrofloors®

can fulfil all of that

plus add that extraordinary drama to a room when you see the transformation in reality.”

DRY HOUSING OF ROLL-ON-ROOM ALLOWS FOR LUXURY FINISHES The Roll-on-Room system from Hydrofloors® has an advantage in that the floor and drive system are dry housed, never submerged or make contact with the swimming pool water. As the floor remains dry, finishes such as highly polished marble not normally accepted in pool rooms may be used on the surface. With the system, owners are able to claim back what is usually the largest room in a house, hotel or commercial premises for functions or normal everyday use when the pool is not in use.

The main floor and sub frame is fabricated using chemical resistant stainless steel to ensure a long, trouble free lifespan and a simple design modification to a reinforced concrete pool will enable it to accept the Roll-on-Room system easily.

Once installed, the floor glides across a pool on special nylon rollers with sealed stainless bearings for minimum resistance and noise.

The covering can be finished with a wide range of products from natural stone, ceramic tiles or even timber to match the remainder of any pool surround.

Once the Roll-on-Room is in position owners can rest easily in the knowledge that the pool is securely covered and safe. The air temperature can be dropped to a preferred level and the room can be used for a variety of purposes including functions, sports and recreational activities. Large savings will also be made on everyday running costs once the Roll-on-Room is in position over the pool.

NOTHING FLOORS CERTIKIN AS IT MOVES INTO A NEW PRODUCT AREA Certikin is making a grand entrance into the moving floor market as it joins forces with The Cartwright Group, a British-based engineering company with more than half a century’s experience.

Offering the ultimate in flexibility, the Chameleon Powered Floor is an impressive feat of engineering, which allows a living space to be transformed at the touch of a button into a swimming pool. Totally unique, it simply slides out on silent rollers to cover the pool seamlessly with the existing flooring and when the pool is required, the powered floor simply slides back onto a sub-floor which can be constructed under the house, garden or patio. Its platform features motion sensors front and rear to prevent collision with foreign objects. In the event of a sensor being triggered, the platform will stop moving. The floor is constructed to meet architectural floor loading standard No BS 6399-1.

Leading architect, Harry Calder was planning the design of a house in Knutsford, Cheshire and he was able to create two rooms in one thanks to the Chameleon. He says: “The Chameleon offers the ultimate flexibility to convert the pool room.” He quotes the example of a project currently under construction where the pool room can be used as a leisure suite and gym and swiftly converted into a boardroom. “It creates an extra room but offers a number of options that take it beyond simply being a pool cover.”
