MOVING FLOORS

The floor surface finish consists of 3mm thick stainless steel plates and can be finished in a variety of ways, according to the design requirements

HYDROFLOORS® – TAILOR-MADE MOVING FLOOR SOLUTIONS FOR HIGH END POOLS Hydrofloors®

have built themselves a great

reputation with their variable pool floors. Each floor is tailor-made to the specific requirements of the client and the company are able to provide project managers (if required) to see the installation through from concept to completion. Hydrofloors®

consists

of a team of dynamic, multilingual engineers and designers with international backgrounds and an in-depth experience in the swimming pool industry. They work with high end swimming pool construction companies

who are familiar with the capabilities and quality of their product and increasingly, with architects who are recommending a moveable floor to clients.

The client chooses the pre-selected depths that they want on the control panel and can have as many or as few as they want. Once depth options have been set, the floor height of the pool may be elevated to any of the pre- selected water depths, such as wading depth for children or a depth suited to those with special needs. The highest elevated position of the floor is that of the pool surround, at which point the water is out of sight beneath the floor and the entire area becomes totally

safe and secure, allowing the area to be utilised for a different use.

When the pool is fully closed, energy costs for heating are greatly reduced. A Hydrofloors®

moveable floor structure

is comprised stainless steel beams that are calculated precisely to the pool size requirements, allowing for a strong load capacity. A higher load capacity at the surface level (350kg/m2

) is achieved by

using lock in pins sliding in the pool shell walls. Depending on the size, the pool structure will need to be between 700 and 900mm deeper than the swimming depth to accommodate the floatation tanks and

CASE STUDY The First Ever Americas Installation For Hydrofloors® Personnel from Hydrofloors®

have recently

worked with US pool company Aqua Blue Pools to install the first ever Hydrofloors® moving pool floor in the Americas. The installation at Healthy House on Kiawah Island, South Carolina was described as “a true engineering marvel”. Hydrofloors®

staff from Belgium and

the UK were on site to project manage the landmark installation and worked closely with the US based pool builders and other suppliers. For architects, the efficiency of complex systems like this can be a concern but

the pool building team of Aqua Blue Pools, who constructed and finished the shell, and Hydrofloors, who designed and constructed the variable pool floor system, made it a relatively smooth process.

The pool walls had to be formed, faired, and due to the nature of this pool having a Hydrofloors®

system, completely tiled to

a vertical and horizontal tolerance of 1/8”. This level of perfection is rarely necessary aside from the top of one side of an infinity edge pool, which is far simpler to achieve. In addition, due to the nature of how the Hydrofloors®

system will move vertically, it was necessary to recess LED pool lights so that the floor edge can move smoothly past them. It took an enormous amiount of time and patience to carry this all out, but the Aqua Blue were able to realise the goal. Stainless steel

into the Ramon Grey decking and coping that surrounds it. When in the flush position, a system of robust stainless steel pins locks the floor securely into the pool structure. “It is probably not very interesting to get into all of the technical business here, but I will say that this thing is a seriously intense and robust work of engineering. It is very exciting to see it come together after eighteen months of planning and discussions. For this to be the first ever installation by Hydrofloors on this side of the Atlantic is exciting,” said a member of the Aqua Blue Pools team, adding: “People have asked me why anyone would be interested in the expense of a movable pool floor. The reasons are the clear and interesting utility that they bring. On this Kiawah Island residence, the useful deck area is roughly doubled when the floor is up and flush with the surrounding deck.”
