Project Showcase Innovation Provides The Key To A Residential Blue Lagoon

he owners of this recent project in Oxford can lie back and enjoy the ultimate pool for relaxation. Housed in a modern extension to an impressive family home, the sleek and contemporary pool building contrasts with the rustic, traditionalism of the main house. Guncast Swimming Pools were appointed to create a tailored and chic lagoon that seamlessly blends into its surroundings, reminiscent of a naturally formed pool. Innovation in the project was key and Guncast kept the pool as minimalistic as possible by tunnelling all cables underground and housing the mechanical equipment for the pool in a separate building.

“INNOVATION IN THE PROJECT WAS KEY AND GUNCAST KEPT THE POOL AS MINIMALISTIC AS POSSIBLE BY TUNNELLING ALL CABLES UNDERGROUND AND HOUSING THE MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT FOR THE POOL IN A SEPARATE BUILDING”

Pool facilities, such as the changing rooms, showers and gymnasium are also all contained in a separate building, connected to the pool by a frameless, glass link, which becomes almost invisible, maintaining the separation and individuality of the two buildings. Frameless, sliding glass panels form the walls of the pool building. The pool can be opened right up to the gardens on a beautiful summer’s day, flooding the building with natural sunlight. During the winter months, even with the glass screens shut, there is still a feeling of being outside in amongst the gardens. With doors fully retracted, the poolside riven stone flooring flows uninterrupted onto an external and generously sized terrace, allowing the impressive landscaping to fuse naturally with the pool. This includes a rill of flowing water that meanders from the far end of the garden right up to the pool building, which appears from afar as if it runs straight into the pool. Combined underwater and poolside lighting gives the entire interior a pleasantly intimate and welcoming atmosphere. On dull winter days and when evening falls, the strategically placed fibre optic lights give the pool a faint glow, whilst remaining unnoticeable when not in use. These lights combined with the defining feature of the pool, a ‘floating ceiling’ that is lit up with hidden strips of tiny LEDs and make the ‘bottomless’ pool truly glow.
