Towards Bigger And Better 2nd Edition After a successful January launch event at the NEC in Birmingham, the dates for the 2014 UK Pool & Spa Expo have been set to return to the popular, easily accessible exhibition centre from 20 – 22 February 2014.

UK Pool & Spa Expo 2014 Heads

Having led the way with an event in the centre of the UK, the NEC is the UK’s most popular conference and exhibition destination and is just moments from the motorway, has unlimited parking and benefits from an on site international airport and train station. Event Director Claire Saunders comments: “The feedback we got from exhibitors on site at UK Pool & Spa 2013 was extremely positive and the NEC as a venue shone and was given a big tick by all. Companies were delighted to see people from around the country from day one and visitors made the most of the on site facilities and had flown, driven and taken the train to reach the event.

“Not only did visitors come from all corners

of the UK we also attracted a much wider mix of job titles to the event than had been previously seen at other UK wet leisure shows, within our 1,700 high quality visitors there were architects, specifiers, construction professionals, designers, developers and many more. This is something we are continuing to work on and grow for our next edition. We are building strong relationships with vertical industry associations and bodies to ensure our exhibitors get a good return on their marketing spend.

“In addition to this, our 2014 event runs alongside The Spring Caravan and Camping Expo where we hope to attract key decision makers of holiday parks, camp sites and other relevant professionals and of course on our public day, the consumer.”

The 2014 floorplan shows an impressive selection of exhibitors to date with over 20% of companies coming from overseas. Features

from 2013 have returned such as the ‘New Product Zone’ and the popular exhibitor lounge and for 2014 there is also a much anticipated show pool which will not only be a major feature, but will be used for live demonstrations and technical content. Once again the organisers will be running a full programme of seminars and this will include international speakers and topics – the programme will be announced very soon online.

Facilities Are Getting Hot At Saddleworth Pool

Oldham residents were able to relax in style this summer by taking time out in the newly opened sauna and steam room at Saddleworth Pool and Leisure Centre.

Pool Matting Promotes Safety

As part of an ongoing refurbishment programme, Heronrib matting has been replaced in the changing rooms and showers at Wickford Pool in Essex. The pool is owned by Basildon Borough Council and operated by Sports and Leisure Management Ltd.

Manufactured in the UK by Plastic Extruders Ltd, the matting has been chosen to complement the new interior colour scheme and replaces some original Heronrib matting supplied over 15 years ago. The old matting, which is still perfectly functional after this length of use, is being moved to the plant room and other back areas.

Heronrib matting is a popular choice for barefoot and wetside applications. Its embossed surface is slip resistant, warm and comfortable to stand on and

minimises the risks associated with walking on ceramic and other floors which can be very slippery when wet.

Another important benefit is that the matting is impregnated with anti-bacterial and anti-fungal additives which reduce the risk of cross-contamination, making it both safe and hygienic for bare feet. Heronrib is manufactured from hardwearing non-porous vinyl with an open grid construction and channelled underbars which help water to drain away easily in all directions. The matting is available in several colours. It is supplied in 10m long rolls, easily cut on site, and in widths of 50cm, 1m and 1.22m.

The wet leisure facilities at the centre, which is run by Oldham Community Leisure (OCL), underwent a £100,000 revamp which turned an old store room into an exclusive, state-of-the-art sauna and steam room. “The cedar-clad cabin sauna has been fitted with amber LED mood lighting, and the

steam room has Italian tiles, colour- changing lights and is scented with relaxing fragrances – it’s the perfect environment to unwind at the end of a busy day,” said Peter

Howson, Head of Customer Relations at OCL. “It may be the old store room

space, but it fits in so well it’s like it has always been there!” The new facilities are free for existing members but can also be used by local residents on a pay-as- you-go basis, providing an additional source of revenue for the centre. OCL, which recen tly won the management contract to run Oldham’s leisure services for a further ten years, runs 14 sports centres, plus swimming pools throughout Oldham.
