ts extraordinary location, directly opposite Newport’s famous Transporter Bridge, combined with the history of the building make a visit to The Waterloo something very special indeed. Refurbished six years ago, the building,


which dates back to 1870 houses an ornate listed bar, amongst many other original features as well as more than twenty bespoke bedrooms, free WiFi and a private dining room.


Offering a wide selection of excellent modern and traditional cuisine, food is served seven days a week, with lunchtime meals available every day. By evening you can choose to dine a la carte or, if


you’re there on time, from the Early Bird Menu. The Early Bird Menu runs from 5.30pm to 7pm from Monday to Friday and offers a superb selection. The a la carte menu is available at lunchtimes and


dinner sittings from Monday to Saturday. Offering an outstanding choice of starters and mains, all prepared to order using the fi nest freshest ingredients, the menu

changes regularly, however, our current favourite dish has to be the immense tandoori style monkfi sh with coconut and cucumber salad. If a big meal doesn’t fl oat your appetite boat why


not choose something from the light bites menu, which offers the Waterloo’s culinary expertise in a lunchtime tidbit. The highlight for us on the light bites menu is without doubt the Vegetarian fi sh (halloumi) and chips with tartare sauce and peas. On the last Thursday of every month it’s Tapas


night. On this very special night you’ll fi nd The Waterloo serving up an exquisite selection of Spanish and Portuguese cuisine – all freshly prepared and changing every month. The weekly-changing Sunday lunch menu is also


a real treat. Served as two courses (£13.95), or three- courses (£16.95), there are a wide selection of starters, mains and desserts, with something for all tastes and dietary requirements. Hugely popular, make sure you book before heading along to try it out. Christmas bookings are now being taken for lunch
