TASTE OF AUTUMN
DUTCHY’S JAMAICAN JERK SHACK
Dutchy’s Jamaican Jerk Shack has reopened at a new location in Newport City Centre on North Street, opposite the Salvation Army hall.
T
he popular restaurant was originally stationed above The White Hart in Caerleon. To celebrate the new opening, owner Antonio
Smith invited past guests and regulars to a special tasting evening on Wednesday August 14, where they were served rum punch on arrival and treated to authentic Jamaican music played on traditional steel drums. Antonio told Voice: “We had a
special night to thank our regulars for all their support over the past year, plus it gave them a chance to check out the new restaurant and get a feel for the place. “The comments and feedback
have been great so far, I think people are glad that we got a new venue as our food was sorely missed.” The new Dutchy’s on North
Street offi cially opened on Thursday, August 15, and has a similar vibe to the original restaurant, as it’s been decorated and furnished to replicate an authentic Jamaican jerk shack. From wooden panel walls and tin sheeting, to candle-lit
tables using empty bottles of white rum, it all adds up to help create an authentic Jamaican atmosphere. Popular dishes at Dutchy’s include the jerk chicken and jerk pork, where you can choose the level of heat.
@wearevoice Jerk is a style of cooking native to Jamaica in which
meat is dry-rubbed or wet marinated with a spice mixture. Another favourite dish on the menu is curry goat,
which is a must for all curry lovers. Why not try a traditional Sunday lunch at Dutchy’s
Jamaican style?
For only £9.95 per person you can get stewed chicken, pot roasted beef and pork, rice and peas, Jamaican seasonal fruit and vegetables, fruit bread, roast potatoes, homemade coleslaw and gravy. This hearty meal allows you to pick and mix from a variety of traditional and unique tastes from the Caribbean.
Sunday lunch is available from 12noon until 4pm and booking is advised.
Treat the family to something
different this Sunday and pay Dutchy’s a visit. Dutchy’s is open seven days a week, from 6pm until
11pm Monday to Saturday and from 12noon until 11pm on Sunday. Every Friday and Saturday night it has a live steel band
called Duo Flex, playing traditional Jamaican and pop songs while you eat. Dutchy’s is located at 15 North Street, Newport.
