NEWPORT
ewport Food Festival provides the perfect opportunity to sample
food and drink from more than 70 stalls, many from Newport and its surrounding areas, all in the city centre.
The event spreads from Newport Market up to Commercial Street and High Street and then across to the Riverfront Theatre – making it accessible for everyone. Watch chef demonstrations
from ITV’s Saturday Cookbook chef Mark Sargeant and two Welsh BBC Masterchef fi nalists Dale Williams and Larkin Cen. The Michelin Star chef Hywel Jones and now patron of Newport Food Festival will be showing off his skills in a masterclass and also
judging the Teenchef competition. Local chef Tim McDougall from Celtic Manor Resort will showcase a signature dish from the menu at Celtic Manor’s 3 AA Rosette fi ne dining restaurant which is sure to be mouth- watering and Faisel and B Ahmed from Popadoms In Newport give the event a real ‘Made in Newport’ feel!
Families will also love the package of street theatre and kids’ workshops taking place across the city. RICK STEIN AT THE ABERGAVENNY FOOD FESTIVAL

he Abergavenny Food Festival takes place over the weekend of 21 and 22 September. In addition to the extensive markets there’s a programme of special events featuring some of the brightest lights of the food world. The fi rst of these actually takes place on the Friday (20
September, 7.30pm at the Borough Theatre). Rick Stein - one of Britain’s best-loved cooks talks to Xanthe Clay on the occasion of the publication of his memoir ‘Under a Mackerel Sky’ (Ebury Press) about a life in food that has spanned four decades. Starting off as an accidental chef when his nightclub business got closed down, Rick has scaled the highest heights as a restaurateur, cookery- writer, and one of the most accomplished presenters of food on television. Xanthe Clay is food-writer for The Daily Telegraph. After the event Rick will be
