FAMILIES SAY ‘PLAN FOR WINTER WITH A FREE BOILER’

Whilst we’ve been enjoying the sunshine and good weather, over 100 households have so far benefi tted from having free gas boilers installed in their homes in time for the colder winter months.

A

s part of a government scheme, eligible households have been able to receive a free gas boiler to replace their old,

ineffi cient heating under a scheme which Warm Wales Cymru Gynnes is running. Young families and pensioners are among

those who have been able to benefi t through having their broken or ineffi cient boilers replaced with free new energy effi cient boilers which will ensure their homes are warmer and cost less to heat. The Government estimates that a new en-

ergy effi cient boiler could save between £190 and £240 a year on average household heat- ing bills, and as a result of new Government policy and funding streams many homeowners, tenants, landlords and leaseholders in Wales could receive free replacement boilers. Ruth Evans was forced to boil the kettle just to heat water for her young children Catrin and

Rhiannedd when their old boiler broke down. Their existing boiler was over 15 years old and very ineffi cient, struggling to heat their 3 storey home in Treorchy. But when it fi nally stopped working Miss Evans, 32, and her partner An- drew were unable to heat their home. “It was really inconvenient when the system

broke down and having to boil the kettle to get hot water for the children” said Miss Evans, “The scheme from Warm Wales Cymru Gynnes came at just the right time for us. It’s a great government backed scheme which has saved us so much money”. To qualify householders will need to be

receiving a qualifying benefi t, which could include pension credit, tax credits or income related benefi ts. In addition to a free new boiler householders can also benefi t from grant sup- port for cavity and loft insulation to help make homes even warmer and easier to heat.

“We’ve had some lovely sunshine recently”

said Helen Perkins assistant projects director at Warm Wales Cymru Gynnes, “but household- ers, tenants, landlords and leaseholders shoul- dbe looking ahead to ensure they have boilers which are effi cient and in good working order. The scheme provides free new energy effi cient boilers to householders, so we want as many eligible people as possible to take advantage of the scheme”. Warm Wales Cymru Gynnes is a commu-

nity interest company which has a long track record in working with private householders, local authorities, social housing providers and landlords. Call today on 01639 825960 with details
