The Dansette Days is a celebration of the fab music
* Vicki Lambert performs at
of the early 1960s - when teenagers played singles from the Hit Parade on the latest Dansette record-players and watched Oh Boy on TV. They listened to classic ballads
and rock ‘n’ roll by legendary pop stars - songs like Son Of A Preacher Man, Middle of Nowhere, Like I’ve Never Been Gone, Rubber Ball, More Than I Can Say, Walking Back to Happiness, You Don’t Know, Halfway To Paradise and Once Upon a Dream – each record costing about six shillings! The evening will feature no
less than four top tribute acts: Steve Conway as Bobby Vee, Liza Starlight as Helen Shapiro, Rob Dee as Billy Fury and Vicki Lambert as Dusty Springfield. * Rob Dee has been performing
his tribute show to Billy Fury for over 14 years, at theatres, clubs and 1960s music festivals all over the UK.

Summer holidays were always the best thing in the world when I was younger – messing
about with my mates all day, playing football and staying out as long as I could. The weather always seemed to be better when
I was younger as well. I swear we had six weeks of sun during school holidays, not the rain we have these days! This summer has been a crazy one for us at
team MPG; we’ve launched the new breakfast show on Capital - waking you guys up with a smile is the name of the game. No boring chat just fun, laughter and plenty of banter. But now that the summer is coming to an end
and school is back on the cards, normality is somewhat resumed. Even though loads of you will despair at
this, September is a month we are really looking forward to. We’re going to be all over the freshers’ events
as the new students come to South Wales. If you’re stuck in traffic we promise to put a
smile on your face and if you’re doing last minute homework on the bus we are even willing to help. So summer might be over, but Matt, Polly and
Geraint will be here to keep you smiling in the mornings and we can’t wait to have you join in our banter on the phones and Twitter- @CapitalMPG. We love a random call with you guys ringing
OH, MAN! //
up to have your say, we always treat the show as a foursome, us three and you. And we love that a call from a listener can totally spin what we had in mind for the morning and we run with it, which is so exciting.
So basically in September we dare you to
The Manfreds, with original ‘front man’ Paul Jones, will be performing many of the tracks from the highly acclaimed album ‘The Five Faces Of
Manfred Mann’ at The Riverfront this month. The album is set to be re-released as part of their 50th anniversary celebrations, and features a mix of their biggest hits and the jazz and blues songs for which they are famous. Paul Jones, with his award winning harmonica sound, will be joined by
Mike Hugg on keyboards, Tom McGuinness on lead guitar, Rob Townsend on drums, Marcus Cliffe on bass guitar and Simon Currie on saxophone/ flute - all excellent musicians who will provide a full evening’s entertainment with a few ‘surprise’ renditions of their work.
Catch The Manfreds on September 28th. Call 01633 656757 for tickets. //
The must-see production in the new season at Blackwood
Miner’s is the breathtakingly farcical Boeing Boeing by Marc Camoletti from October 1-3. Following highly successful tours of Bouncers in 2010 and Up ‘n’ Under:
The Welsh Tour in 2011 and Neville’s Island by Tim Firth in 2012, Black Rat Productions is back with this wickedly funny play, co-produced with Blackwood Miners’ Institute in association with RCT Theatres. Book tickets on 01495 227206.
