Page 34 Secrets of the Southwest 2013 Join the SW Quest!

The SW Quest Art and History Tour is beginning its eighth successful year and 2013 promises to be the biggest yet. Over 45 artists and 15 historic places in the Southwest are listed in our 2013 self-guided tour. Throughout July and August of each year, participants can pick up a bro- chure at any museum or tourist information centre from Medicine Hat to Swift Current and, using the lists of art- ists, attractions, accommodations and restaurants in each zone listed on the brochure, plan a one- to three-day self-guided tour. Don’t miss a thing when you go, it is all in the brochure.

Want a little more excitement? Then plan to be in Eastend July 19, 20, and 21 for the SW Quest Art and History Festival. The festival is held each year in conjunc- tion with Dino Days. Southwest artists will be in Eastend over the three-day fair, which features our “Art Walk” to all artists’ venues, a luminary parade, workshops, fabulous fireworks and activities presented by Dino Days. It is a family festival and there is something for everyone in Eastend over the festival weekend!

Stay up-to-date with us for a full listing of artists and events over the season at www.swquest.ca. There you will also find links to the artists and historic sites websites. Visit log cabin at Climax

On your way to or from Frontier, visit the village of

Climax. This community of about 180 people is located 14 km east of Frontier, and about a 15-minute drive from the Montana border. Agriculture, oil and gas are the economic drivers of the

region. The area is a photographer's paradise with ghost towns, grain elevators, wildlife and amazing sunsets. This quaint cabin pictured above was relocated from west of Consul in 2008, and is now located on Second Street West in Climax. The cabin, originally used as a blacksmith shop, is now enjoyed by many travellers from as far away as Norway. It holds many treasures – old and new – featuring talent from area artists.

The cabin is about 70 years old and has withstood the prairie winds and winters.
