While vacationing in the Maple Creek area, get a flavour of its western roots and take in the Cowtown Pro Rodeo. Exciting action, thrills and spills, are in store for all who attend this major event. Sanctioned by the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association, the Cowtown Pro Rodeo brings together the best rodeo cowboys from North America and abroad. For three days these cowboys demonstrate their skills with some of the best and rankest rodeo stock around. A full range of rodeo events from bull rid-
ing, bareback riding and saddle bronc to bar- rel racing and team roping provide non-stop entertainment for spectators. Bring a lawn chair for viewing comfort on the grassy hill that serves as a grandstand. This year the rodeo will be held July 17-19 at the High Chaparral Arena located on Highway 21 north of town. High Chaparral Arena was voted the best rodeo grounds for a small rodeo in 2012, and the organizing com- mittee was named CPRA com- mittee of the year in 2012.
With that kind of recognition you know the rodeo will be first class! A parade will wind its way through town and down Jasper Street on Friday, July 19 beginning at 5 p.m. Miss Rodeo Maple Creek and the Maple Creek Indian princess will pre- side over the rodeo events. For youngsters, there’s mutton busting and a wild pony race – always crowd pleasers. After the dust settles in the rodeo arena, cowboys and cowgirls will be kicking up their heels at a dance Friday night.
A Heritage Festival is also held in conjunction with the rodeo. It takes place downtown on Friday,
July 19, and features live music, street performances, artists and vendors,
tours and more!
