Secrets of the Southwest 2013 Page 25 Gull Lake a trendsetting community
Gull Lake is a progressive community located only 50 km west of Swift Current in the heart of southwest Saskatchewan's oil and gas industry. It is also part of the Cypress Hills Destination Area. The town holds true to its farming, ranching, oil and gas
roots, while being a trendsetter in the region. It was one of the province's first rural communities to have high speed Internet access and is home to the nearby SunBridge Wind Farm, where 33 energy efficient wind turbines produce 22 million watts of power that can power 12,000 homes. Gull Lake has a population of about 1,000 peo- ple with a hometown feel and an outside-the-box attitude. Part of the Cypress Hills Destination Area and only steps away from the Great Sandhills, Gull Lake has an updated swimming pool, base- ball diamonds, tennis courts, library, health centre and digital theatre. The town boasts a recreation complex with an arena that plays host to hock- ey games and figure skating events. The Lyceum Theatre is one of the Southwest's premier locations for viewing digital movies. Located at 1375 Conrad Avenue, the theatre is fully digital, and plays movies every night except Wednesdays at 8 p.m. Venture out into one of the many out- door locales within the town like Little
