Page 24 Secrets of the Southwest 2013 Festivals a highlight of the summer Maple Creek hosts three very popular festivals every year.

A multicultural showcase In recent years, Maple Creek has become a melting pot of various cultures. People have moved here from many countries, like the Philippines, Korea, Mauritius and Chi- na to take advantage of employment opportunities and the mild climate.

In March this diversity of culture is celebrated at the Multicultural Mosaic. It's an afternoon of food and entertainment sponsored by the Newcomers Welcoming Committee. Sample food from a variety of countries and enjoy ethnic entertainment. It's a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon! Heritage celebrated History, music, art, food and entertain- ment are featured during the annual Her- itage Festival. This year it takes place on July 19, which is the final day of the Cow- town Pro Rodeo. The day starts off like any other Friday in the summer, with the Farmers Market at Land of Living Skies Park on Pacific Avenue. Vendors and artisans will be set up on

Jasper Street, so be sure to check out the hand-

made articles created by the very talented locals. Musical entertainment is ongoing throughout the afternoon, and children's activities are also available. It's a shopper's paradise as merchandise spills out onto the sidewalk as stores take part in a huge sidewalk sale.

First Nations dancing and Metis jigging are high- lights of the day. At 5 p.m. unfold your lawn chair and watch the Cowtown Pro Rodeo parade as it winds its way down- town.

Get a flavour of Maple Creek

Jasper Street is transformed into a huge out- door restaurant during A Taste of Maple Creek on August 17. Maple Creek is known for its excellent restaurants and is a culinary destination. During A Taste of Maple Creek, local restaurants showcase their specialties. Jasper Street is blocked off for foot traffic

only. Local food establishments set up booths and for a small fee visitors can sample their dishes. From fine dining to take-out, there is some- thing for every taste.
