LOGISTICS & SUPPLY CHAIN Axiomincreases productivity
Tamworth based, Axiom GB, has manufactured and installed an automated packing solution at Lakeland’s mail order distribution centre in Kendal. The new system has been designed to nearly double the productivity of Lakeland’s operation whilst reducing costs and presenting a better finished parcel for the customer. Mike Gannon, operations manager comments, “I already knew Axiom as they had been working with Lakeland for a number of years giving us support and assistance with our existing conveyors and our miniload system through both hardware and software. Previously, they had proved to be incredibly reliable and a great company to work alongside, however, as this was a major project for us, it was important that Axiom’s tender was viewed objectively alongside a number of alternatives. In the end Axiom came out on top on their own merit. They offered the best solution at a cost effective price in
what was a very fair and open process against other experts in the automated field.” Axiom overcame a number of difficulties during the construction period: fitting the new mechanised packing system into the tight confines of the building; integrating the new solution with the B+ packaging machines; and completing the work in a tight timescale without interrupting Lakeland’s order processing. Gannon concluded, “We have a great working relationship with Axiom, they are both fair and transparent in the way they do business and that makes for a very trustworthy partnership. There’s no doubting their design and engineering skills and the quality of their products. They’ve also proved to be very good at spotting solutions to problems, always delivering over and above our original remit. We’ll continue to work with them to develop the machinery and the process to deliver even better results in the years to come.” For more information call +44 (0)1827 61212 or visit

To Russia
with love Kliklok will soon be installing a second SFR150 end load cartoning machine at Udarnitsa, one of the largest confectionery companies in Russia. The company’s first Kliklok SFR machine was installed in 2009, with an automatic SMARTBELT infeed system, which allows the product to arrive at random with no need for precision placement by operators, thus improving line efficiency and providing a fully automatic cartoner with a short footprint. Udarnitsa was so pleased with the SFR’s performance, they bought a 2nd SFR cartoner, this time with a Right Angle Transfer (R.A.T.) infeed, to pack trays of chocolate marshmallows. This option provides a cost-effective automatic transfer solution as the R.A.T. system receives single products on a conveyor at 90 degrees to the SFR infeed, then synchronises and transfers them between the infeed flights of the cartoner. In addition to the Smartbelt and R.A.T. infeed
options, the SFR150’s modular design enables other choices for either hand loading, collating or stacking – providing tailor made solutions for improved productivity. With the benefit of flexibility, the SFR150 can be reconfigured if your requirements change. For over 50 years, Kliklok has been at the
forefront of food packaging technology. The company's extensive range of durable and efficient equipment includes top load and end load cartoning, automatic product handling, wraparound sleeving, and end of line machinery. In addition the company offers the Woodman range of bagmakers,
plus trolley loading equipment, and display card loaders. Kliklok is continuously investing more effort and resources to ensure that its packaging machinery remains the number one choice for food producers worldwide. For more information call 01275 836 131 or visit
