Preparing for the Games

Sara Appleby dissects the Food Standard’s Agency’s Play it Safe campaign, and explains what it means for businesses

he UK is united in its aim to give visitors the best possible experience and,

is why we have launched the Play it Safe campaign. Play it Safe aims to give

businesses the information they need on how to comply with food safety regulations in time for the Games. Through the campaign we will also tell visitors about what they should be looking for when buying and eating food. We are sharing stories with the media, we’ve launched a Play it Safe Twitter feed and we’re working with a range of stakeholders to spread the word about good food hygiene. You may have seen our

campaign launch in early April, where we brought together the Food Safety Squad - a team of 10 food safety inspectors, representing over 400 local authorities spanning from East London to Newcastle - to highlight that there will be extra inspections of food businesses, as well as an increased focus on food safety, in the coming months. The campaign will focus on

areas of the country that are likely to experience the biggest influx of visitors, and on the increased number of food outlets
