The Aston Martin DB6 was launched at the London Motor Show in 1965, following on from the highly successful DB5, immortalized by the 1964 James Bond film ‘Goldfinger’. The front of the DB6 was visually similar to the DB5 but closer inspection revealed quite a different car. The wheelbase was lengthened allowing additional passenger space in the rear along with a raised roof line. The profile of the rear quarter lights echoed those of the DB4GT Zagato, a styling theme that continued through to the DBS and V8 models until production finished in 1990. Both front and rear bumpers were split into two pieces and the rear of the car was re-styled with a Kamm tail which helped reduce aerodynamic drag and gave the car more stability at speed. The engine remained the same as the DB5 unit, a 3995cc twin overhead cam straight six with triple SU Carburettors producing 282bhp. The Vantage version offered a claimed 325bhp
and took advantage of triple Weber carburettors. This stunning DB6 Vantage was subject to a full restoration
from 2000 through to 2007. The work was undertaken by marque specialist, Ricky Cann, at a cost of over £100,000. The Vantage engine was upgraded to a 4.2 litre unit, offering a smoother power delivery throughout the range and was also converted to run on unleaded fuel. The coachwork received extensive time and attention culminating in a full ‘bare metal’ re-spray. Since the rebuild, it has covered few miles and presents in extremely fine order throughout. The interior is original with the leather seats being supremely soft and comfortable. The current vendor is an enthusiastic collector of classic motor cars and has decided it is time for a new owner to enjoy FKJ 358C. Finished in dark blue with a black leather trim, this DB6 is fitted with a ZF five-speed manual gearbox and a full length Webasto sunroof; a factory option from an extremely limited list at the time. It should be noted that this is a particularly early example-number 52 to be precise-as can be demonstrated by the ashtrays located in the armrests. Supplied with a V5 document and a current MoT test certificate, these 6’s are going to be the next Aston to rise dramatically in value; if ever there was an opportunity to invest ahead of the market, this could be it.
