80,100 £28,000 - £34,000 The Jaguar MK. IV was a re-launch of a pre-Second World
War model made by SS Cars Ltd from 1936. Before the Second World War the name Jaguar was the model name given to the complete range of cars built by SS Cars Ltd. The saloons were titled SS Jaguar 1½ litre, 2½ litre or 3½ litre. After the war, the company name was changed to Jaguar Cars Ltd. All the cars were built on a separate chassis frame with suspension by semi-elliptic leaf springs on the front and rear. Pre-war, the car was available as a saloon or drophead coupé, although post war only the saloon was produced. Prior to 1938, body construction on all the models was by the traditional steel on wood method but in that year it changed to all steel. The cabin dimensions and well-appointed interior were very similar to its larger- engined brothers. This most elegant Jaguar SS 1½ litre saloon
has been owned by the current vendor for the last 26 years and was originally built in November 1936 and supplied to Henlys, the largest dealer group within the UK at the time. EVW201 has benefitted from substantial investment by the vendor over a long period of time; during the 1990s, the brake system was completely overhauled together with new king pins and new wiring fitted. In June 2007, the engine was totally rebuilt by Cedar Classic & Vintage Cars of Hook in Hampshire with invoices totalling £7,600. The vendor advises us that the vehicle has covered approximately 200 miles since. A reconditioned steering box was fitted in May 2009 at a cost of £1,040, the differential has been refurbished and wire wheels rebuilt with new tyres fitted. On the cosmetic side of things, the brightwork has been re-plated and coachwork repainted while the leather seats have also been sympathetically restored. The conclusion of this investment is a Jaguar SS 1½ litre model that is a very presentable and useable pre-war classic. Supplied with a V5 registration document and an MoT
test certificate valid until 18th August 2012 together with a comprehensive file of invoices collected during the vendor’s ownership, this is an opportunity to purchase a most elegant touring saloon.
