£4,000 - £6,000 The first 105 series Alfa Romeo Spider was launched at the
1968 Geneva Motor Show, with a round tail these Alfa Spiders were first known as the Duetto and boasted a four cylinder, twin overhead cam 15700cc power unit. Later round tail Spiders were fitted with either the larger 1750cc or 1300 twin cam units. On offer today is a European series 2, 2000 Spider. first supplied to Germany in lefthand drive. The current owner’s husband purchased the Spider in Germany during 1978 where upon he immediately shipped it to Greece where he was employed at the time. There it was used until the owner brought the car into the UK in 1983 on his return. Since then the car has undergone some renovation works including an engine rebuild circa 1998 with the mileage at that time recorded in the region of 90,000km. The body was renovated two years later in 2000 and was
extensively rust proofed at the same time. Since then the gearbox has been overhauled with a new clutch and Michelin Energy Tyres fitted. Works carried out in the UK has been by a well known and respected Alfa Romeo specialist in London. This Alfa Romeo, after being used as daily transport, is now offered due to the lack of use it now receives and also because with space at the owner’s current residence at a premium, it is
34
being stored outside under a professional car cover. It has only approximately 103,000km recorded which equates to a low 64,000 miles. The panel shuts are an enthusiasts dream with the doors closing with a good clunk and without any undue effort, the sill panel seams and swages being correct and sharp. The engine starts easily with good oil pressure and there is a lack of any worrying noises. There is little evidence of the camshaft noises that are usually found on the not so good and less well maintained examples. The gearbox is particularly good with smooth changes
throughout even when cold. Reverse gear does not jump out on full release of the clutch whilst engaged as may be found on many examples. Presented with Blu Hollandaise (Dutch Blue) coachwork and complemented by red interior trim the car also benefits from the addition of the optional hard top as well as the fitted soft top, which is in good order and with no apparent leaks. Registered on a UK V5 since 1983 we are assured that ELN 128Y will have an MoT test certificate by the time of sale and as she has a current road fund licence the lucky new owner should be able to drive her straight away.
Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Buyers are advised to inspect the car in person or use a professional to carry out this service.
