The monthly community magazine for Dartmouth and local villages
Best read local publication by far IN THIS ISSUE Dear Reader
Another Regatta is over and the By The Dart team are, like many in Dartmouth, feeling exhausted. Work, socialising and sailing conspire to make Regatta even harder work than Christmas! Nonetheless, we’ve worked hard to bring you another issue of By The Dart, our 40th to date. With next year’s directory in January, that means our 50th issue will be the Regatta 2012 issue - now that’s something worth waiting for! A quick apology if you’re confused by our publication dates - this issue is a little delayed as Regatta rather distorts our publishing schedule making it very difficult to get the magazine out until now. Next month’s issue is out from October 7th but thereafter we should be back to the first week in each month.
This month, we’ve interviews with Nick Clarence (Asst. Harbourmaster), Brian Ridalls, Father Will Hazlewood (Dartmouth’s new vicar), Dr James Morris and Steve Aldridge and Alison Bostock of NatWest Bank. We trace the tribulations behind the building of the Embankment and investigate how Dartmouth gets its gas and electricity in part 2 of our How Dartmouth Works series. There’s part 3 of Philippa Nuttall’s Wedding Diary and we outline A Day in the Life of the Dartmouth Academy. We’ve also visited the Slapton Ley Field Centre and investigated the derivations of Crowthers Hill.
Next month, we publish the Official Programme of the 2011 Food Festival as part of our October issue - this month, David Jones, Chairman of the Festival, outlines what events etc you can expect to see.
Enjoy. Best wishes, Mark Simpson, Publisher
