Grumble in The Jungle

That’s entertainment is a song that has been sung by many an artist over the years and a term used to describe some of the things that ‘celebrities’ get up to in their daily life. But these days when I read any entertainment news I start to question the validly of the news put before me; is it really THAT entertaining?

I am an entertainment presenter who thrives on good, hell GREAT entertainment news but I am finding it harder and harder to find any news that I feel is worthy of a mention on my radio show. Is this because the role of the so called celebrity is now handed to those with no given talent? Reality TV rules! Primetime TV is dominated by John or

Shawada from next door who want to be famous and don’t care how they get there or what they are going to do once they have reached their reality star status! Not that the program makers care about that one bit; anyone can be a so called celebrity no matter how boring their regular life, just as long as the viewing figures are up. The stories most dominating the headlines over the last few weeks have been about our randy footballers who for some reason can not stop playing away; and I am not talking football! They have gorgeous looking wives or girlfriends, fabulous homes, glamorous jobs and loads of money yet they feel something is missing and seem to think that, that something is a prostitute oops I mean high class hooker. Now I am not having a dig at anyone who believes that their job path is to sell their bits for money, but the kiss and tell stories is what is now our ‘Entertainment News; while these young ‘ladies’ are our new set of ‘celebrities’. Who is to blame? Could it be us the viewer who in our droves are switching on these programs? Is it the program

makers who are only interested in making money and not the quality of the programs? My answer to these questions would be BOTH! We are all guilty of voyeurism. We love watching regular people that we can relate to looking like complete idiots. We love it and the program makers love it even more. I recently went along to the Xfactor auditions and saw for myself first hand that getting through was not about talent (not that I needed to go to the auditions to find that out, just have to watch the program and cringe) it was about who they could make the most fun of with a little bit of talent as the taster. Working hard in media to achieve your dream of a career in showbiz is not necessary these days. Just think of a gimmick, search online for the right program to suit your needs and go audition for it. Am I happy about this gateway to stardom? Hell no, but when we live in a world where talent means nothing we have to make our name known somehow! I hope that real tal- ent will not be disheartened and still keep working as hard as ever on what you are pas-

sionate about, because when the time comes for you to make it big, whichever route you take, you will have some- thing to back up your new sta- tus and we can get some REAL celebrities back where they are supposed to be. Giving us news and gossip that I will be interested in going live on air and saying ‘guess what I read today?’

In saying all of that, not all reality TV is bad for you. There are some talented people out there that have tried all ave- nues to get their work heard or seen to no avail so have had to take any means neces- sary to get to the top. Even I have partaken in a bit of real- ity TV and I am talented as hell *big smile*

Till I grumble at you next time take care *smile*
