sponsored by a few clothing brands that most artists would only wish to be associated with; the like’s of Ecko,GiftedHeroes, Zoo York. Lets just say its been a rollercoaster and I don’t plan on jumping off just yet, its just getting started; Young’s in it for the longrun!! lol
Kix: You’ve gained a lot of experience and recognition over the last year and your twitter sky rocketed to 3,800 people when you came on. how does this feel? Young: It feels good to walk down the road and be recognized for what you love doing. Same raves that never wanted me in, ask me to perform with my hat and trainers lol; funny that. But yeah it’s a huge feeling, hard to explain. Its priceless to receive so much love. First time I got asked for an autograph and picture I had to look back at Trevor like “Huh u kidding me” lol. Yeah for the record I was literally forced to get on twitter, I did not see the point of it, didn’t understand who in their right mind wanted to know my movements and what I was getting up to every sec- ond!!. Couldn’t be anymore
wrong, joined Twitter in May or June this year and had like 3000 followers before I knew it!! I know shocking. The baf- fling thing about it is close to 15 fans or “Youngsters” (they call themselves) have YoungO as part of their name as well!! And I have close to 6 Twitter Fan pages made to support me. Really humbling!. I have gotta say its good to see Kix Maga- zine finally on twitter lol; never thought I’ll see the day lol
Kix: I think your twitter fans should get a mention! Young: They all know I got loads of love for em’, if I mention names I’ll be here all day lol; all 3800 of them show love and support. I’ll shout out the Twitter Fanpages though, @YoungOSupport @YoungO_ Support @TeamYoungO @LoveYoungO etc lol
Kix: Do you have any advice for artists coming up just like you? Young: Stay humble, work hard, invest in yourself, please don’t wait for things to happen because they never will, sorry lol, keep a small, reliable team and most importantly God first. Never Back Down, if they don’t
want to open the door, dropkick the window, easy.
Kix: Lets talk about your latest release and the music video, how did you get everyone together and who exactly was involved? Young: Never Back Down!!!!!! Am excited about the track and video, It is probably the most natural track I have made yet because it came so easily; straight from the heart. I was in the studio with Silvastone; which was a blessing in its own. He has worked with the likes of Sway, G-FrSH, Blak Twang, Tu Face etc. His work ethic is just something else and I told him I wanted to make an anthem for the people. 3minutes later the beat was created lol. Silva put me on the spot man; I had to come up with something crazy and real and I wrote the chorus and it just felt so good to proclaim those words “I will never back down”. The initial plan was to record the track and get it done and dusted there and then but I later on believed the best thing for the message the track was passing on is to have different stories from heavyweights in the scene. The first artists I called
were Jammin and Lefty London, and once they heard the chorus Jammin called it “Champion Music” lol. And as soon as Ozzie B and Wizz heard it we all ended up in the studio getting history made!!!. Everyone did justice to the track and painted the picture I wanted for the song. Since then it’s had radio air play on BBC 1Xtra DJ Targets Show, DeJavu DJ Col-J show and Prime Tyme radio DJ M Breeze from Desert Storm in NY
Roachee was the last piece of the puzzle; a late but extremely vital piece. Met Roachee twice before and I have always been a fan since I heard his verse on the “Roll Deep – When Am Ere” track. Gave him a buzz and he loved the track and got him down to the studio and he just like the other artists jus painted a perfect picture for it. All the artists had a story to tell and we told it well as far as I’m concerned and the support and response so far has overwhelmingly proven that. All I can continue to hope for is that you equally love the video and feel the message. The video also has cameos with the likes of Dotstar, Blak Twang, Mc
