electronica Celebrates 50 Years

Munich, Germany — The world’s leading trade fair for Electronic Components, Systems and Applica - tions is celebrating its 50th birth- day this year. Since 1964, electroni- ca has been presenting tomorrow’s electronic trends while providing a comprehensive overview of the international industry. This year’s event, scheduled for

November 11 - 14, 2014, will high- light such key topics as automotive, embedded systems, lighting and medical electronics, as well as the over-arching themes of security and energy efficiency. The success story of electronica began 50 years ago with the founding of Messe Mun - chen. Even in that first year, exhibitors and visitors from Ger - many and abroad packed the exhi- bition halls. Established on the ini- tiative of U.S. companies, the trade fair soon evolved into the top event of the electronics industry. More than any other trade show, it has offered a complete overview of the market for decades, encompassing the entire range of the electronics industry, from components and sys- tems through applications to elec- tronics services. In the last 50 years, many technologies and inno- vations, such as the microchip, have had their introductions here. An insight into the major

developments in the world of elec- tronics over the past five decades has been compiled and presented in the electronica anniversary film. This year, about 2,700 exhib -

itors from all over the world are pre- senting their products and services. At the last show, in 2012, 73,051 vis- itors from 79 countries attended the exhibition. The key topics in 2014 are automotive, embedded systems, med ical electronics and lighting, as well as the themes of security and energy efficiency. “Electronics are an essential

part of our lives. In November, elec- tronica exhibitors will again be showing what will drive our society forward in the future” explains Anke Odouli, the show’s exhibits director. Contact: Munich Trade Fairs,

vest ments in front- and back-end manufacturing capabilities. With the continued globaliza-

tion of the microelectronics industry, and localization of manufacturing capabilities within growing electron- ic markets, the South American mar- ket presents new opportunities for supply chain companies. “We are pleased to announce

this new project and excited by the opportunities in Latin America for our members,” said Bettina Weiss, vice president of business develop- ment for SEMI. “We are especially grateful to Unitec Blue and BNDES for their support of this inaugural event, as it shows the clear intent of the device maker community in South America to attract new invest-

ment and drive industry expansion in the region.” The three-day event includes a

delegation tour of the Unitec Blue facilities in Buenos Aires, and a full two-day conference with presenta- tions and panel discussions from industry leaders, analysts, and gov- ernment representatives. The con- ference will provide overviews of the current industry environment in South America, address the chal- lenges and opportunities for supply chain companies in the region, and explore the next steps in building the region’s microelectronics industry infrastructure. The SEMI South America Semi -

conductor Strategy Summit follows the successful launch of a similar

event in Vietnam last year, which was the first SEMI venture in that emerging market. “By taking small, but significant steps in new and emerging markets, SEMI is strategi- cally working to open doors for our members to help them explore new opportunities when markets emerge,” said Weiss. “Events like the SEMI South America Semiconductor Strat - egy Summit bring together global and regional industry leaders and helps foster the connections and relation- ships that hopefully lead to business and market growth.” Contact: SEMI, 3081 Zanker
