Increased awareness and coordina- tion among the public and private sectors on standards, codes, and con- formity assessment can help quicken the pace of energy efficiency technol- ogy development and deployment. To this end, the roadmap establishes a framework to which U.S. industry, government, standards developing organizations, and others can look to enable greater energy efficiency ca- pabilities for the nation’s buildings. The roadmap’s recommendations
for closing standardization gaps in the near-term (0-2 years), mid-term (2-5 years), and long-term (5+ years) are in- tended to map out a coordinated ap- proach to energy efficiency standardi- zation, and to assist SDOs in identify- ing priority areas for work, as well as opportunities for collaboration, consoli- dation, and harmonization. The roadmap is supplemented by the EESCC Inventory Database — a com- prehensive, online source of informa- tion on relevant standards, codes, guidelines, and conformity assessment programs related to energy efficiency in the built environment. More than 50 member organiza-
tions and 4 federal agencies, involv- ing over 160 experts from industry, standards and code developing or- ganizations, energy efficiency-fo- cused organizations, educational in- stitutions, and other groups, took part in the roadmap’s development. “Energy efficiency is a complex,
cross-cutting issue that applies to all industry sectors, impacts multiple government agencies, and hits every stage in the life cycle of a building,” said S. Joe Bhatia, ANSI president and CEO. “The release of the energy efficiency standardization roadmap marks an important step forward in advancing a coordinated national ap- proach to energy efficiency standard- ization, and the recommendations outlined in the roadmap are both ac- tionable and achievable. “Working together to pursue the
EESCC’s recommendations, we stand to make great gains for the energy effi- ciency market and the nation,” contin- ued Mr. Bhatia. “I encourage stake- holder organizations from both the public and private sectors to review the roadmap’s recommendations, identify where they may be able to help close the standardization gaps, and work with the EESCC to do so.”
SEMI Forecasts Back-to-Back
Years of Double-Digit Growth Continued from page 1
and assembly and packaging equip- ment is forecast to experience growth next year, rising to $3.1 billion (+1.6 percent) and $2.6 billion (+1.2 per- cent), respectively. The forecast indi- cates that next year is on track to be the second largest spending year ever, surpassed only by $47.7 billion spent in 2000. “Mobility and interconnectivity
require leading-edge process tech- nologies, both at the fab level and in packaging, and are key factors for
growth in equipment spending,” said Denny McGuirk, president and CEO of SEMI. “We expect capital spend- ing to increase throughout the re- mainder of 2014 and into 2015.” Growth is forecast in all regions
except ROW in 2014 and all regions in 2015. Taiwan is forecast to continue to be the world’s largest spender with $11.6 billion estimated for 2014 and $12.3 billion for 2015. In 2014, North America is second at $7.2 billion, fol- lowed by South Korea at $6.9 billion. For 2015, South Korea is in second ($8.0 billion) in spending, followed by North America ($7.3 billion). Achieve environmentally friendly, high performance foil-to-foil, -tab, -terminal, battery pouch and HV termination welding with Sonobond’s SonoWeld® 1600 and Dual Head Spot Welders.
Our units require no consumables and use lower vibration amplitude than other ultrasonic equipment to weld foils as thin as seven microns without tearing. Plus, our Dual Head Spot Welder is the ONLY ultrasonic welder than can join up to 100 layers of copper or aluminum foil in just one pulse.
Unique Ultrasonic System
Using our patented Wedge-Reed Bonding System, our welders produce precise,
dependable, solid-state and highly conductive welds without bending stress or stalling. And, we have the only ultrasonic system that accommodates most oxidized and tinned metals and wires.
A pioneer in ultrasonics, Sonobond holds over 150 patents, including the first for ultrasonic metal welding. We’re the clear choice for today’s advanced Lithium-Ion, Ni-CD and Ni-MH battery assembly.
