The Big Trees logging branch (left and above) can be seen before and after secnicking. Construction started with pine uprights (belowleft) being hot glued to a hardboard base. Once several uprights were in place (belowright) the center spline was installed. Temporary screws on each side of the spline help to keep it properly centered.

n the fall of 2010 my son, Ryan, and I built the shelf that was to support the Big Trees logging branch of the


Pacific Lumber Company as part of our Northwestern Pacific Railroad. After completion of all the trackage on the next peninsula, and a battle installing a turntable, we decided it was time to work on the Big Trees branch. Every model railroad book and article correctly instructs modelers to always build the upper decks of multi-deck rail- roads first. I cannot agree more! The only problem is that we added this up- per deck to the plan after the lower deck had been built and partially scenicked. This meant that all the work on this up- per section was done standing on stools. There goes my back.


The shelf had been in place for over 72 JUNE 2014
