lines and additional details. The queen post details along with the .023 monofilament line truss rods with the turnbuckle castings are in- stalled once the brake rigging is in place. The truss rods are anchored with ACC under the bolster beam once they are pulled snug. The addi- tion of the stake pockets to the frame sides and nut-bolt-washer (NBW) castings to the end beams completes the detailing of the frame which is now ready to be primed and paint- ed. The brake staff assembly should be painted separately at this point. This era of rolling stock will re-
quire a variant of archbar style trucks then in common use; howev- er, there are currently no standard gauge trucks available. This re- quires the builder to modify a set of Sn3 trucks available from P-B-L by the addition of a 1-1/4” bolster made from 1/8” square K&S tubing and a set of NorthWest Short Line 33” S gauge wheel sets with needle
points. The tubing was cut to length and adjusted by filing one end so that the wheel sets rolled freely while still being retained by the side frame bearings. The side frame as- sembly was glued up using an ACC gel adhesive which was set aside to cure before painting the trucks and wheels. With the paint dry, add the trucks
and couplers to the model checking for proper height, clearances and position. Common washers or strip wood can be used to adjust bolster height. Once satisfied, trim the truck screw flush with the sub-deck and apply the decking boards. All that is now needed to com-
plete the project is the addition of the brake staff to the B-end of the car, apply decals and lightly weath- er the model. The addition of an open load really sets this model apart, in the case of our model a lumber load made from strip wood. —George Riley
