2014 Valley Forge RPM meet

As one can see here, the modeling spanned the years and even the conti- nent. Yet, there was nothing on the ta- bles that any of us could not do after a bit

Layout tours are part of RPMs, too. Left, Paul Backenstose models the WM in HO between Hagerstown (staging) and Con- nellsville (staging) in a 19 by 29-foot room. Ron Parisi scratchbuilt the NYC deck scow Sprakers (below), which was used in ce- ment canister service in New York Harbor. down and hear a good story, see some- thing new to you, or learn about some technical aspect of the hobby. So it was at Malvern, Pennsylvania, just west of Philadelphia,

over the weekend of

March 28-30, when 305 of us gathered for the biennial Railroad Prototype Modelers Valley Forge Meet.

There were 60 clinics with subjects ranging from modeling equipment of specific roads to “prototype tours” and railroad history, to layout design, building and modeling techniques, op- erations on prototypes and on layouts, and yes, regional roads prevailed but they were not exclusive.

Dennis Lippert brought models to support his presentation on Conrail 50-foot boxcars. Y&S 1016, a P&LE affiliate (above), is an amalgam of parts and scratchbuilding. The floor and sides are from a kit Accurail produced for the SLH&TS (Soo Line), the roof and ends are Branchline, and the Youngstown doors are from an Accurail kit. The decals are by Stan Rydarowicz. Bob Steiskal displayed this HO coal loader, an old Industrial Her-

itage Models kit (above right), and the HO tank cars are by Lou Whiteley. DOWX 10341 (below left) started with an InterMoun- tain 10,000-gallon kit. Drawings from the Illinois Railway Muse- um archives were used to make the dome fittings. The car car- ried phenol for manufacturing Bakelite®
