Polycam offers simplified robotic systems for sports

MRMC launched its Polycam software-controlled tracking systems at IBC last year and has now introduced three separate systems designed for live sports production. Polycam allows multiple triangulated cameras and lenses to track a point (or numerous points) of interest, simultaneously and in realtime, using a single control interface. It should produce fluid and

precise repeat camera moves and MRMC claims that Polycam will ‘offer new editorial and commercial opportunities for live sports coverage’. Features include self- calibrating robotic heads, robust system architecture and simplified user interfaces. “Although the principal of triangulated robotics is well understood, producing systems that are easily configured, deliver consistent results, fit technically and economically in

a live broadcast environment and offer real creative possibilities, are vital to realising the technology’s potential,” said MRMC managing director Assaff Rawner. Polycam Velocity is designed for race tracks, or wherever the path of the subject is known. Users need only adjust the speed of the cameras following the path. Realtime positioning data automatically adjusts focus relative to the moving target and slaved zooms maintain consistent framing.

Polycam Auto is designed to interface to third-party image analysis and tracking systems, such as ChyronHego’s TRACAB, and automatically control the point of interest of the camera. The operator simply selects an individual player (or group) to follow. Polycam Solo allows a single operator to manually and simultaneously control multiple perspectives and camera motion from a single controller.

S2 Extensions can deliver ‘37% uplift’

The company’s S2 Extensions technology is increasing the performance of the SES-5 satellite backhaul infrastructure in Africa, according to exhibitor Newtec. Satellite operator SES has

tested and implemented Newtec MDM6000 satellite modems to increase the efficiency on its African SES-5 payload. The MDM6000 satellite

modems are said to be optimised for medium to high speed IP applications over satellite and are claimed to be capable of delivering up to 37% in efficiency gains compared with the existing DVB-S2 standard, thanks to S2 Extensions. SES says that

it is one of the first satellite operators using S2 Extensions commercially. The MDM6000 modems

handle up to 380Mbps bi- directionally. In this instance, the SES-operated link transmits at 250Mbps over satellite, with the option to ‘pay as they grow’ in terms of demand. “Fibre bridges the digital

divide between the western world and Africa,” said Ibrahima Guimba-Saidou, SVP for SES in Africa, “but does not bridge the digital divide within Africa between urban and non-urban areas. This new technology boosts the performance of satellite power which transcends geographic challenges to provide that vital last mile connectivity in Africa.” “I am pleased that by

Toolbox continuously monitors streams

The nSureTNS546 TS monitor from Nevion is described as a powerful toolbox for continuous monitoring of transport streams, services, PIDs and PSI/SI/PSIP tables. It is said to enable fast fault detection and diagnostics in an easy-to-use and intuitive user interface.

The system supports monitoring of DVB-ASI, SMPTE310 and IP/Ethernet streams, eliminating the cost of interface adaptation. Thanks to its intuitive user interface, Nevion says that operators save time when error tracking, resolving issues faster and ensuring faster uptimes, while the trend monitoring

functionality is said to help the operators to schedule maintenance and support

activities, reducing the OPEX of the system. The nSure TNS546 can be configured via an easy- to-use web interface and interacts with overlaying network management systems, while scheduled software upgrades can be performed via VideoIPath or any NMS. The HD-TD-10GMX-6 is part of Nevion’s Flashlink transport system family which offers solutions ranging from simple CWDM/DWDM point-to-point links to nationwide optical links. It is a high density, 6-channel HD/SD-SDI multiplexer into a 10Gbps optical stream. All streams can be

asynchronous to each other, allowing multi-standard video transport over the same fibre link. The product's optical converters are SFP-based, which means that the number of spare parts are kept to a minimum. CWDM and long haul optics are available as options. 1.B71
