Smooth pipeline: Take After Effects projects directly to playout with the iTX Render Service

Graphics boost for playout system

Miranda By Michael Burns

Several new enhancements to iTX, Miranda’s flagship integrated playout platform, are being demonstrated at IBC

today. Version 1.1 of iTX Render Service for Adobe After Effects automates and manages fully rendered After Effects graphics, making them immediately ready for playout from either the iTX platform or Miranda’s Vertigo Suite of graphics automation and asset management tools.

Also on show as part of iTX’s version 2.3 SP3, is iTX Master Control, an integrated playout solution that combines playout automation with live event functionality. It features hardware control panels that can be activated on demand throughout a live broadcast.

The Miranda stand also

features subtitling and closed- captioning software from recently-acquired Softel. A major advance in Softel’s flagship caption creation and repurposing workstation has been introduced in the form of Swift Create V8. This new

version aims to address the demands of content owners, broadcasters and facilities to streamline the preparation, checking and repurposing of closed captions and subtitles for both traditional and IP- delivered video services. 8.D41

Cinedigm taps into fasp technology Aspera By Carolyn Giardina

Entertainment distributor and independent content aggregator Cinedigm is now using Aspera’s high-speed fasp technology for digital content deliveries to its partner

distribution platforms, as well as to pull in content from independent film producers and studios. As Cinedigm offers full-

length HD films, often uncompressed and in high- resolution formats, a key factor was that it needed a system that could accommodate large file sizes.

Cinedigm adopted the

Aspera Connect Server to enable content partners to deliver files directly to Cinedigm. Once content is received, it goes through a series of steps including processing, transcoding and ingest before Cinedigm uploads the files to ‘workflow watch folders’ for delivery to

distribution channels. Partner distributors such as Netflix and Hulu can use their own Aspera clients or a free, auto-installed Aspera Connect browser plug- in to download content. Internally, Cinedigm selected

Aspera Point-to-Point to transfer feature-length films directly to its SAN storage facilities and to its sister office.

Today, Cinedigm delivers

media files ranging from 40GB to 90GB in a few hours, the company reports. Additionally, staffers can set transfer priorities and define bandwidth allocation, monitor incoming and outgoing transfers, and provide access to users with defined access rights. 7.K30
