Performing Arts The Downers Grove School of Dance
Welcome to the Downers Grove School of Dance! The School has been created to bring a well-rounded yet affordable dance program to the Downers Grove community. The program is designed to meet the needs of the beginner and seasoned dancer from preschoolers to adults. Dance is exercise, a social gathering activity and an art form. Our goal is to provide a fun, safe and nurturing environment while sparking creativity in all of our dancers.
Our dance year encompasses three sessions: one 13-15-week fall session, one 16-18-week winter/spring session, and a 6-10-week summer session along with short dance intensives. The objective of the fall and winter/spring sessions is to prepare the students for a spring recital by focusing on both technique and combinations. Our very young dancers follow shorter session schedules.
Students may select and register for classes; however, the instructors may make appropriate changes in class placement if necessary. Participants must be the age listed in the program details within one week of the first day of the class. For questions regarding placement, please contact Allison Jacobs, Recreation Supervisor at 630.963.1300.
CLASS ATTIRE is ballet, jazz, hip hop or tap shoes depending on which class you are registered for. Leotard and tights and/or bike shorts and T-shirt are recommended.

Irish Step Dancing Open your child’s eyes and heart to Ireland’s traditional dances. Learn the traditional Irish Jig, Reels, Hornpipes and Team Figure dances. The McNulty School of Irish Dance program is designed to challenge each dancer to achieve his or her personal best, while helping individuals develop concentration skills, coordination and self-confidence. Dancers begin learning solo and team dances in Irish soft shoes and then progress to more complex soft-shoe and heavy-shoe steps over time. Class attire includes: black T-shirts or leotards, black shorts, white socks and Irish, jazz, ballet or light gym shoes. No long pants of any kind. No class October 31 & November 28. • CV
All levels of Irish dance with the exception of beginning classes require the instructor’s recommendation. To enroll in a heavy-shoe class, you must be enrolled in a soft-shoe class during the same session.
