President’s Message and Board Dear Residents,

I hope you all have had a sensational summer and are looking forward to a fantastic fall! The Park District has certainly been busy hosting summer camps, special events, programs and athletic leagues all over town, as well as tournaments and outings at the Golf Club and lots of miniature golf at McCollum Park.

During the late spring and early summer, Downers Grove Park District Board of Commissioners and Staff worked together with consultants from Face to Face Communications to develop a Strategic Plan for the District. Your feedback from focus groups, facility comment boxes, online polls and electronic communications were taken into consideration during the process. You’ve given us a great place to start making plans for the future of our District. But one important thing that became apparent through this process is - we can’t do it alone.

Partnerships with community organizations, local businesses and other government agencies are essential for our success. Partnerships save tax dollars, help parks and recreation make life better in our community and are the pathway to efficiency. Our goal moving forward is to secure partnerships to leverage our existing resources for greater outcomes in serving you.

One recent partnership includes joint delivery of the quarterly newsletter, Park Places, with the Village of Downers Grove’s Hometown Times and School District 58’s Annual Report. Joint delivery will save a total of $13,000 annually among the three entities. Similar cost-saving arrangements have been made for vehicle maintenance services, field and facility usage and storm water management projects. Additionally, partnership agreements with affiliate groups such as DGYB, DOLLS Softball, Panthers Football and Cheer and Roadrunners Soccer bring a more comprehensive offering of recreation and athletic programming to our residents.

Partnerships make us stronger and help us to support our mission. If you have an innovative partnership idea to share with the Park District, please contact the administrative office at 630-963- 1304. We are really looking forward to a bright future here at Downers Grove Park District!

Sincerely, Matt Cushing, Park Board President Board of Park Commissioners

The Downers Grove Park District was created in 1946 as a special unit of local government when a group of citizens envisioned the establishment of a park and recreation system to serve area residents. The Park District’s mission is to provide a wide variety of year-round recreation programs, facilities, parks, open space and natural areas that respond to the articulated needs and desires of residents.
