Writer’s Workshop


Fear writing no longer! Students will learn the skills needed to become successful writers in an engaging and exciting setting. Utilizing the Six-Traits writing technique, students will be guided through the writing process in multiple genres. Students will be given the tools they need to improve their grades and increase standardized test scores. Each class will allow for one-on-one instruction as well as whole-group feedback. 

Photojournalism In a perfect match of writing and photography, this course teaches you to have a “photographic eye” and a writing style that is equally artistic. Participants write poetry, stories and nonfiction expository papers to accompany the pictures taken on “nature photo shoots.” Students then combine these to create beautifully polished articles worthy of National Geographic. Take full advantage of the fall colors and learn outside with Nature Photojournalism. 

34 Autumn 2013  Pom Skills


Ready to bring your Poms routines to the next level? Poms Skills Programs provides dancers with challenging Hip Hop, Jazz and Contemporary inspired routines. Dancers will be expected to learn multiple routines, apply precision to their moves and work with their team to create an energizing final Pep Rally. The squad will continue to learn how to safely execute new leaps, turns, kicks, splits, jumps and various tumbling tricks. 


Equipment: Please bring a water bottle, appropriate attire (fitted clothing that students can easily move in. No jeans please.), Jazz shoes or sneakers are recommended. Poms will be provided.

Babysitting for Success


Discussions, role-playing activities and practical experiences are all part of this class that covers diapering, feeding and playing with children, child development, emergencies and first aid. Bring a snack and a doll to each class. A student reference book from the Academy of Pediatrics and many other resource materials are included. Students receive a certificate of completion for the eight-hour class. 
