BBC Sports Personality of the Year At the annual ceremony to award the fi nest sporting achievements across the year, cyclist Mark Cavendish triumphed over stiff competition and was presented with the prestigious silver TV camera and tripod. In second place was Darren Clarke and Mo Farah came third. T e three winners beat off competition from Alastair Cook, Luke Donald, Dai Greene, Amir Khan, Rory McIlroy, Andy Murray and Andrew Strauss who were in the top- 10 shortlist of contenders going into the show. T e Team of the Year award was won by the England Test cricket team and Sir Steve Redgrave won the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to rowing, his long and extraordinary career in competitive sport and his ongoing commitment to promoting sport and good causes in the UK. The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards Stars fl ocked to the red carpet for an evening of surprise and celebration at the 69th Annual Golden Globes Awards in Los Angeles. T e black and white silent fi lm, T e Artist, stole the show by taking three awards, including Best Picture, and Hollywood icon Meryl Streep took the Best Actress Award for her portrayal of Margaret T atcher in T e Iron Lady. T e Best Actor Award went to George Clooney for his role in T e Descendants. T e ceremony was compared by British comedian Ricky Gervais, who used his characteristic wit to entertain the pure A-List audience throughout the night.

Wimbledon 2012 Another great year was had by all at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, as the world’s leading tennis stars took centre court by storm. Although legend Roger Federer defeated the hopeful Andy Murray in the men’s fi nal, British hopes look bright for the future as Jonathan Marray lifted the doubles title. American, Serena Williams rose to take the women’s title for the 5th time. T e event closed with an emotional speech by Andy Murray as he thanked all his supporters in a moment which touched the hearts of the nation.
