amed for her large-scale outdoor pieces, Barbara Myers has been fascinated by the three-dimensional form since first enrolling at art college.


With light, energy, warmth and movement at the heart of her creations, she has since exhibited at a number of the country’s finest galleries and art fairs. Myers says: ‘I was initially drawn to abstract


art because of its freedom of expression and ability to convey feelings without boundaries.

Proving that bigger is usually better; we talk abstract art with leading sculptor Barbara Myers


I was fascinated by the work of contemporary artist Barnett Newman and cried when I saw his exhibition at the Tate Modern in London. It seemed to give validation and support to what I was trying to achieve.’ In addition to travelling to Barcelona to study her heroes, Antoni Tapies and Subarach, Gerhard Richter’s view that “things are not always as they seem” has heavily influenced Myers’ work.
