Nuline … new day … “…. She (Alison Johnstone) started
to look at the future of her beloved hobby and wondered how she could make it a “must have, must be” pastime. That is when she thought of Nuline dance. She says: “Nuline dance is a funky name and logo for clubs and instructors to use for a very small annual fee in order to gain more participants. That simple.”
Alison adds: “The idea is to build the global brand and giving Line dance a simple and recognizable look. It has worked well for many other genres, there is no reason it can’t work here.”…. “I got so tired of preconceptions. Dancers already know how great Line dance is but new blood has so many misconceptions I just wanted to fi nd a way to appeal to them too.”
And the results are already encouraging…

Making a B Line!
“….At 97 “B” is still dancing and I might add proves to be quite a mover! Other members of the classes that we have dubbed “Her Carers” encourage her too, as they say, get stuck in. She has slowed down a little but that, as she puts it, is only because she wants to become a “Strictly Come Dancing” judge….Line dance has kept “B” active and it means she comes to all our many outings with the other “pensioners” and “carers” in the classes, these are many and varied….
“B” still loves to take to the dance Goodbye Robert
“… Robert Wanstreet (1960-2011) was a true legend of Line dance. He is accredited as one of the pioneers who started Line dance in France in the late Nineties. He was a charismatic dancer, with an extraordinary gift for choreography.
Most will also remember him for his seemingly easy way of teaching and brilliant workshops. His death has rocked the French Line dance community and Linedancer Magazine shares the sadness of all the people who owe Robert a debt of gratitude and knowledge…” (April 2011 – Grapevine)

Ria Vos DANCE TO THE MUSIC
Ria was our cover that month and it would also be a renewal in a way of what Linedancer did all those years ago as we made the decision of concentrating on Line dance names for our cover shots rather than a lot of Nashville stars. This is not always easy as the photos must be of very high quality and therefore professional photography is needed, but it does make a difference!

At 97 ‘B’ is still dancing and I might add proves to be quite a mover. Other members of the classes that we have dubbed “Her Carers” encourage her too, as they say get stuck in. She has slowed down a little but that as she puts it is only because she wants to become a “Strictly Come Dancing” judge. We have heard rumours that she intends to get table tennis bats with numbers on.
Line dance has kept ‘B’ active and it means she comes to all our many outings with the other “pensioners” and “carers” in the classes, these are many and varied. So lately after Ilfracome followed a trip to Hampton Court and Windsor followed by another outing to Ascot.
The next adventure in the planning is to Street in Somerset for a Line dance weekend and some serious shopping.

If
she gets it wrong on the dance fl oor, she calls it her “Senior moment” and she will tease us mercilessly saying things like “Come on you lot, help the aged!” She always has a wicked twinkle in her eye and a smile one could die for.
She is also very popular as she always turns up at class with bags of sweets. Class members often sit with her just to have a chat. It is fair to say that with ninety seven years of experience behind her there’s not much the great lady hasn’t seen or done.
‘B’ loves her Line dancing and all the friends she has made over the years. Chatting to her she asked me if she could say “Thank you very much” in this article, to Pauline and Ivor Morgan from Neath in South Wales for their encouragement and introduction to the wonderful hobby she enjoys today.
Laurent tells me he is happy to oblige so here it goes: “Thanks Both… Love ‘B’ x”
