Garth Brooks
Steve Crosby went to Belfast to see one of the amazing Country star’s fi ve sell out concerts and also attend a press conference.
“… The highlights? The moment the crowd started a chant of “olé, olé, olé…” which left the big man genuinely awe- struck as the admiration of the gathered people was expressed in wonderful sporting simplicity…
..the moment when everyone, but everyone, in the room sang along to Two Pina Coladas to the obvious amazement of Mr. Brooks…. ”Of all the people who are clueless about why this is happening to me, I’m the most clueless. But I’m still so thankful that it is and I still feel like the luckiest man alive. I have the coolest life in the world. It’s like eating ice cream for a living!”….

Nothing new
As far back as 1999, there was controversy from some quarters. Here’s a letter to prove that indeed nothing IS new!
“…there seems to be a glut of miserable people who think that Line dancers should only put on dances that please them. I attend three different classes, all of them good in their own way, all mixed ability classes, and I have never heard anyone complaining because they are providing only easy dances, or only diffi cult. I don’t have time to worry about whether it’s country music or Line dance music, it’s music and it is meant to be danced to, and to be enjoyed….” (RD, A Scots Geordie) (November 1999 – Page 95)
Kimber Clayton
Kimber spoke to Linedancer in June that year.
“….Kimber particularly enjoyed her two gigs in April on the Isle Of Man. “We really had a great time there” recalled Kimber “They weren’t real big shows, but those people had such a good time. You know, just real rowdy!”
…Country clubbers unfamiliar with Kimber’s back catalogue were won over by her remakes of “Addicted To Love” and “Jose Cuervo”, Linedancer’s Track Of The Year 1997.
Cover 41 - October
This is the very fi rst cover where the Red and White design of the Linedancer boot appears (rather than a photo of the boot).
It would continue to be our brand till today!
The cover picture was of pop group Scooch and this was the second non Country singing star cover that year (Scooch was sandwiched between September’s Will Smith, and November’s Enrique Iglesias). Line dancing was changing!

Dancing is never far from Kimber’s mind when she chooses her songs. “It’s been a very important part of my material in the last couple of years. I’ve played so many clubs where people were dancing, even in the States. So I couldn’t let people down; I couldn’t record an album of ballads. I’m not that sort of person. I have a lot of energy and I like songs with a lot of energy. It just so happens that dancers do too!”… Kimber concluded with a special message for the readers of Linedancer.
“It’s important that you’re out there dancing every night or every week because that is what’s keeping Country music alive in the UK. Without you, all the artists in the UK would not be here, and we really appreciate that. Stay out there and keep dancing!” Kimber Clayton (1964-2006) (June 1999 –Page 47)
