I would like to say a very big thank you to my family and Line dance friends for a wonderful party they organised for my 80th birthday, I will never forget it. As my birthday approached I made it known that I didn’t want any fuss. I woke up on my birthday and after a lovely day I got myself ready to go out. My friend was picking me up at 7pm to take me to Line dance. The doorbell rang and I opened the door. There was a white limo and a chauffeur who said, “I am driving you to your venue and this trip is from your seven grandchildren.” So off I went in a daze. I arrived at the hall and was greeted by my family, my two Line dance teachers (Linda Morrison and Val Whittington) plus lots of my dancing friends. I was showered with presents, flowers and cards. There was a buffet, with cakes, sandwiches and many other goodies. By then I was on a high and found it hard to take everything in. Everyone sang Happy Birthday and I felt proud of them. Then they all asked for a speech but I was so emotional with joy that I can’t remember what I said. I had a lovely evening and I’m sure everyone else did. So once again, I would like to say a big thank you to all, for the most wonderful 80th Line dancing birthday evening. It was fantastic, bless you all.

One of my dancers, who has learning difficulties, was at a Line dance event recently at the Prince of Wales Hotel in Southport. She was dancing and accidentally bumped into the lady behind her and apologised. The ‘lady?’ in question took hold of my dancer by the arm and walked her off the floor saying, “if you don’t know the steps you should not be on the floor!” My dancer knew the dance as well as anyone but her difficulties show in her lack of timing and musicality. The floor was a little crowded and dance floor etiquette (the customary code of polite behaviour in society or among members of a particular profession or group) was fully explained with everyone being made aware of the space around them. This was purely an innocent accident and could have happened to anyone. NO dancer should be treated like this, I am so hurt and disgusted at this womans behaviour. If she should happen to read this, she will know who she is and she is not welcome at my events again.

As always we are enjoying all sections of your Linedancer magazine, keeping us right up to date with our love and passion of Line dancing. Laurent wrote in The Last Line of your September issue and we have to say Laurent you were bang on. We have packed classes who have danced for years, from the time they arrive 7 till 11 they dance, have fun and laughter throughout the whole evening. Every class night is a social for all our 80 dancers. We say, A Chance To Dance in Line for fitness and fun, keep up the good work, thank you.

May I, through your great magazine, thank Julie Burr from Star Liners for 14 wonderful years of her teaching Line dancing. Julie over the years has had a lot of patience and kindness in teaching us a lot of the old dances and of course the new, she has run classes in both Corse, Staunton Village Hall and Bredon Village Hall. She has also organised many, many great Line dance weekends, finding as many different venues from Lytham St. Annes to sunny Torquay, arranging a great fun time for everyone, thinking of themes for our fancy dress. She has organised wonderful social nights and Christmas parties, doing the tasty catering with her mother Elenor. It was a great shock to us all when she announced that she is stopping her classes, due to work and family commitments but she hopes to continue dancing in a social capacity. A great big thank you to Julie from past and present students, we will miss your laughter and the fun your classes have been.
