200 magazines of memories
Well, here we are, 200 editions old and not looking too shabby either, even if we say so ourselves.
For this edition, we wanted to give you something really different, something you could look at to make you smile, think and feel part of the biggest family on earth, our Line dance family. As it is December, we wanted the magazine to have the “feel” of an early gift. Let us hope we have managed to do that!
For the main part of this special 200th edition, we researched our 199 other magazines and picked bits and pieces relevant to each one of its 17 years. Some of what you are about to read seems funny because it is undoubtedly of its time, but a lot of what we found illustrates that very little is new under the sun. Country vs Pop, etiquette problems, too many dances, all those topics have existed almost from the beginning…
The dance scripts this month are also a nod and a wink towards Line dance’s rich heritage. 14 scripts, all classics, but “reinvented” if you like, to brand new tunes. This list was compiled thanks to Big Dave Baycroft who we cannot thank enough for his support. Apart from “Chill Factor” which is this time set to a remix of the original song re-relased in 2010 (great fun too), all the tracks featured here are from 2012.
The thinking behind this decision was simply that we often hear “Too many dances out there and forgetting the good old ones…”. Well, not this month. Re-discover or simply discover those classics with a fresh soundtrack, perhaps generating a brand new hit for one or more of those aptly named “classics of the dance fl oor”.
You will also fi nd other surprises here and there throughout the whole of this 200th edition, taking you back down Memory Lane but also (we think!) proving that Linedancer has moved with the times and is still as relevant today as it ever was…
And if you weren’t around at the beginning, those pages will hopefully entertain you…
